I have a mystery switch on the dashboard.
Never fathomed out what it does, neither did the vans original owner.
2009 Autotrail
Never made the switch illuminate.
I thought it may be to disable the motion sensors on the alarm, although that can be done off the fob.
I've sat in the van, set the alarm and the sensors work either way the switch is set.
I realise it's a case of wild guessing but just thought someone may have had or seen such similar in the past.

Fog lights ?
Have you tried tracing the cables ?
Defo aftermarket, so a previous owner could have wired up anything.
The wiring looks like a professional job though.

I have a switch like that on my Burstner. It's to the alarm on the bike rack at the back. Took me forever to find what it is. Any help?

No fog lights.
I agree it's aftermarket. I'm only the second owner and I'm pretty sure it's not the work of the previous owner having seen and removed the wiring he had done to install an external pump switch.
It certainly wasn't to the standard of the switch.

I'll investigate that one??
I'll have a look to see if I can see where the wires go.

Has the radio been 'hard wired' so it stays on all the time? If so I wonder if it is a switch to isolate it to prevent power draw.

For our Burstner it was a factory fitted switch With the factory fitted radio

Just tried it but I'm afraid not.
I will investigate that one though as looking at the wiring diagram the radio should be powered from the leisure battery but only works with the ignition on, so maybe someone has had a mess about in there.

It could be to prevent power draw.
I intend to upgrade the radio so will explore the possibility of that one.

Sorry folks if my replies don't make sense I thought I had quoted the relevent suggestions.
I've been pressing the wrong quote button?
Thanks for your help so far.

Contact the former owner. I did when I had questions but he was dead so no help there. Wished he was alive as he was the only other owner.

I asked the former owner when we bought the van three years ago. He didn't know what it was for either.

... the one on the dash ???

Is there any spot lights underneath your motorhome?.

Noticed 3 wires to the switch so something good and laminate the switch when on ?.

Or

Can you trace roughly where the wires go ?
Jason.

What on earth are you drinking??? :giggle:

The wires are are power in, power out, and the black wire is a neg so it lights up to tell you it’s in the on position.

Does it light up? If not does it have power going to it?

Is it a momentary or on off switch.
We’ve had a load of new transit vans at work over the last year and they’ve all got an unmarked red switch like yours on the dash.
No one new what it was for till I asked the transport manager.
Turns out it’s to alter the flash pattern on the orange beacon on the roof to comply with chapter 8 regs.
So might be fitted as standard although it does nothing on your van.

For anyone that’s interested the flash pattern is altered by a momentary switch between the negative and switch line.
Found that out by playing with one I acquired from somewhere.

One of the 12v sockets has been added, could it be that switch is for it?

I bet he wishes that also …..Sorry

Heated wing mirrors?

I've never managed to get it to illuminate.
Checked with a meter earlier and there's no power to it either with or without the ignition on.
I'll try with the habitation electrics on tomorrow.

It's an on off not a momentary switch.

Do you have a reversing camera? Our first van had a switch like that to turn the rear camera on and off as at the time it was illegal to look at a TV screen when driving

Looking in the Fiat manual the 12v socket is standard fit. Either way it doesn't isolate the socket. There's no power with either the ignition on it off. Need to check with habitation electrics on.
