We are in Sicily.
Wine is 4 euros for 2 litres
Beer is 1.50 a litre
And the sun is shining.
Could not give a poop.:moon2:
Sounds very nice, you be careful they don't stop you landing back on the mainland.

We left via Milan Malpensa airport today. No particular restrictions but we were temperature tested at Turin last Sunday. A few folks wearing masks. Two areas had been locked down as we left though.

Reuters reporting:

Austria’s interior minister Karl Nehammer said earlier on Sunday that a coronavirus task force will meet on Monday to discuss whether to introduce border controls with Italy.

Such border controls could be established within an hour, said General Franz Lang, who is responsible for public security.

Listening to a New York doctor on the radio last night, she made some frightening statements with regard to how serious this virus can be. Death normally occurs through the lungs not functioning. This can happen to anyone but preexisting conditions will make complications more likely.
It is not looking good anywhere throughout the world. UK schools are now closed following the return of pupils from skiing holidays in Italy. Hundreds of holiday makers returning to the UK from Tenerife where an Italian tourist put his hotel on lock down. The Rugby Italy game cancelled. Our local hospital now has six isolation pods with new signage going up around the hospital. Lastly in countries like Iran the virus appears to be out of control. Is it now time to readdress our own plans for travel this summer or just walk blindly on as if nothing has changed.

Finally, if you are self employed or on short term work contracts without any sign of sick pay, Are you going to self quarantine yourself at home and let the family starve or chance going to work and spreading the virus with everyone you meet... Any thoughts?

There are many people that cannot afford to self isolate for 2 weeks, also have food deliveries and possibly infect the driver, and if anyone has a pay as you go gas/electricity meter they have to go out to buy top ups, can't have that delivered. I don't think that the virus can be contained. Just be as careful as possible and hope for the best.

We live in interesting and worrying times.
We have a ferry booking from Ancona to Igoumonitsa at the end of April which means travelling through some of the worst affected areas in northern Italy to get there.
I'm fully expecting ferries out of Italy to be cancelled before then but wonder how long to leave it before deciding whether to make alternative plans.

Isn’t a travel ban on through those areas now ?

The hundred dollar question Offagain, throw caution to the wind or face whatever direction this takes at home in familiar surroundings with family close by.

Yes I know but I'm trying to predict what the situation will be in two months time.
Will it all be over? In which case we can leave the ferry booking as it is.

Will it be the same? We should try to cancel the ferry and either fly to Greece instead or go the long way round, which will have it’s own problems.

Will it be worse? The ferry will probably be cancelled by the company and we look to fly/ drive a different way as above.

Or we abandon our journey completely and don’t go sailing this summer.

If there is still a travel ban through N. Italy you could re-route from France via Corsica or Sardinia to further south in Italy and then drive across to Ancona. Bit roundabot and more expensive but at least you would get there.

Are you confident that Greece wont also be on lockdown in two months time..

Same dilemma here, ferry booked from Bari on 10 May. Probably wishful thinking it will all be over by then?

I don't think it will be really over until there's a vaccine so probably 6 months to a year maybe. I think worrying about ferry bookings is the least of the concerns especially on a forum where we tend to reflect an older age group.

On the bright side this could prevent the expected draconian measures required in freeing up money for the pension pot..

Interesting Facebook post from the owner of one of the Italian cycling hotels in Riccione that

We're planning a trip to Italy this May - mostly northern Italy, but hopefully as far as Rome and unless the FCO advise against travel then we're not planning on changing anything. We've managed to get 3 weeks off work (which wasn't easy!) so its doubtful we'd be able to postpone the trip to another year....whilst northern Italy would be do-able in the usual 2 weeks, to get further south would be too much driving in that timeframe.

For sure, but I’d rather worry about things under my control than the prospect of my early demise.

How long until travel insurance companies start to restrict cover for trips to areas with Covid-19 clusters?

If you can't get insurance at reasonable cost how will that affect your plans.

The best hope to contain the corona virus spreading might be a warm dry Spring and hot dry Summer, based on the effect this has on seasonal winter flu. All this repeated wind and rain isn't helping.

And there's that

Absolutely agree but I have no influence over the bigger picture and can only try to control how it affects us and ours

We too cross from Bari end of April. As I understand it there are no restrictions on motorway travel down through Italy. I would think this is seen as lowish risk as people are isolated in there tin cans whilst on the move. We will know in the next few weeks, or sooner where this is going and it may well end up with boarders closed and ferries cancelled with the exception of goods. There is nothing we can do about it and it's going to run it's course. No point in getting worked up at something beyond the individuals control. It will be what it will be.

I would say it appears seriousness is age related. If in doubt or you have underlying pulmonary conditions I'd certainly avoid crowds! Typically I'm heading to Spain next week (and will not cancel) so that will be the next place to have a lockdown :cautious:

We were in Sicily last year and did not come across those prices.
Where do they apply so we can try again soon?
