3 years of weekending with the odd month here and there.
Hi all,
We’re thinking of visiting the Isle of Arran for 4 or 5 days at Easter, booking into a site, but while searching to see if the roads were okay for MH’s, this came up.

https://www.pressreader.com/uk/the-arran-banner/20160618/281479275699876

I know this was 18 months ago but they don’t seem too keen on us, anyone have any recent experience they could share please? Oh, and are the roads okay width-wise etc?
TIA.

If they don't want us, tough. When the RET fares were introduced there was always the possibility this would happen. They should be more careful what they wish for.

We went in May 2017. We drove clockwise around the island from Brodick to Lochranza with no problems. Stayed a few nights on the site at Lochranza and then ferried over to the Mull of Kintyre

No problems, enjoy

It is helpful, Arran doesn't want motorhomes, they have made a public statement. Just go, as you would anywhere else. Roads are the same as the rest of Scotland.

It’s actually not helpful, helpful would be answering, from experience; one of the questions I asked.

Since 1964 Gosh that makes me feel old.

 Reading this news report is really strange, Arran was the view from my bedroom window & is still a favourite place to go. I've never encountered any hostility there (note to self, return the golf club towels!). As for the roads, I've driven full sized ambulances all over the island & most roads are fine, but Arran did have smaller ambulances for some of the remote farms etc.
This news paper report seems to be full of the small minded NIMBY's that any press publication has. I haven't bought a newspaper in 30 years & the world is a far sweeter place without them.

We went about 3 years ago no problem its probably the campsite owners trying to get wild camping banned so they get more business

Went last year in 7mtr van, roads no probs, usual passing places when roads go to single track, we found the East side more commercialised and the West more remote, enjoyed our stay but wont be hurrying back, I wasn't that impressed but each to their own.
We stayed in lochranza camp site, wardens friendly and helpful, facilities we good and clean, small pitch and putt course on site and the deer come down into the park.

Okay, roads, there are really only two and they are fine. It's a beautiful island though we borrow a cottage when we go. Over the years it has become less friendly, they would like to see wildcamping banned. As I said, it is beautiful and well worth visiting as an intro to Scottish islands.
Edit
As I write this I can see Arran, there is still snow on Goatfell!

Another example, regretfully, of demand exceeding supply. With the explosion of motorhome ownership, it's inevitable that popular places are going to get overcrowded and the ignorant few make problems for the rest of us. It requires a willingness on the part of the responsible local authorities to develop their local amenities, but of course there's no funding available so, apart from the odd enterprising landowner, nobody is doing anything. A few individuals have tried but with little support and even less success.

We've enjoyed Arran in the past and would encourage the OP to go, but be prepared to have difficulty in finding places to stay in busy periods. We are fortunate in being able to travel out of season and tend to stay at home in the high season.

We were there for a few nights last year, spent a few nights at the site at Lochranza, then one night “wild” over on the west side when the ferry was cancelled due to the weather. Roads were no problem, and encountered no hostility at all, quite the opposite.
