We have just been speaking to someone who tells us that there is trouble with migrants in calais at present...serving fire to tyres etc. We are due to cross in a few days and wondered what experience people have
had recently?

We came over a couple of weeks ago and saw nothing to worry about. Will be going back in a few days so will report if we see anything.

We came through tunnel Saturday morning, nothing to whatsoever. Didn't hang around though !
Was a report of tree trunks on motorway last week to stop trucks and tragically a polish van driver ploughed into stopped trucks and was killed.
I would avoid Calais at night at all costs.

Edit : and make sure you don't drive when tired !

I crossed on Monday teatime, saw a few wandering migrants but no problems and nothing to worry about. I went out the previous Wednesday at midnight and again saw nothing.

Living the dream.
The death happened at 03.45, the Polish driver was probably tired and not expecting to have to do an emergency stop. RIP driver.

Over 25 year's
Ben through cales so many times over the past few years at all Time's of the day and night never seen any thing happen.
Have seen migrant in the town but never on the roads.
Even at the height of the so called migrant crisis.
There's so much scaremongering around.
Things probably do happen on a daily basis but probably only last a few min
There's 1440 min in a day
So a bit unlucky if you get coughup in it but it's a adventure and that's part of the adventure

Came back last Monday from Paris. No issues whatsover, however, there are increased border security checks searching every motorhome and van etc.

Out of interest and not meaning to be confrontational, but question to OP, if we all came back in reply and said there were crowds of migrants on the road sides would you change your plans? I hope not, even if seen they are not really an issue to people on the road

Other than mainly a nuisance to lorry drivers and I really don't see how they expect to get away with that, the driver will simply tell the port authorities he was stopped a while back and he thinks someone got in

There is far too much scaremongering on so many things in life, so much of it spread by media and gossip

If they set fire to your tyres just open your grey water dump valve.... no, hang on, forget I said that! I take it back! Didn't mean it, honest!

Came through Calais no problems But on the dock a car in front of us was searched by a solder with a machine gun ,he made them open the boot of his car which was full of clothes ,made them remove everything then let him put them back .He came to ourselves was very polite climbed into the van had a good look round in the cupboards ,showeroom ,thanked us and left .Never asked to look in the garage capable of holding a dozen bodies ,just waved us on with a big smile :Eeek:

Thanks for all your responses. We would still come through Calais but if problems were reported we would perhaps rethink our stopover the night before.
