Stanard ends on a gas strut. Check out SGS engineering.
Andy[/QUOTE
Thanks Andy so how do you get them off? Others we have on the swivel seat bases are just normal bolts.

If you are wondering how it comes off its just a split pin bend the ends around and pull it out and then push the big pin out.
Martin
pictures not very clear but looks like a split pin to me. Straighten out the two ends, pull out the pin and retrieve the washer, push out the thick pin.
Unscrew the clevis from the strut if needed

A clevis and split pin is very cheap and quick to fit without hand tools... And it won't come loose....ever.So the pin is put in and then bent around to secure, to get it off use pliers to get bend it back to straight and then pull it out? Prefer bolts myself,

we are in the process of changing ours on our Hymer (aren't we Terry)
we now know the bottom fittings do not even need to be removed on ours, take off top fixing, unscrew and leave in the lower fixing, reattach new strut refit top fitting
ours are only held in place with star washers, split pin seems so much better
If you would like some 1400n struts cheap PM me, bought from SGS as their 'Hymer' struts, ours need to be 2200nyours don't seem very strong to lift a bed?[/QUOTE
Yes I agree David, the bed is bleeding heavy too, just looked on sgs site 1000N doesn't seem much bed is extremely heavy wonder if I need stronger. May take you up on that, wonder if some kind gent will give me a hand to? For a couple of drinks

So if I rang sgs David would they advise me to get 2400 too? What newton rating was your original ones?
Yes it does matter if the struts are stronger, they try and lift the bed or whatever with more than the weight of it so it tries to lift all the time.
My hymer was a right pig to get the bed to stay down as it kept rising up and needed weight on the bed to keep it put. That was the correct NEW ones fitted at the factory, it is three years old now and is still trying to rise up.

Thanks so it looks like I need the 1000N ones then originally put on the van 13 years ago,
2400N that is why we have now ordered them
I would expect them to offer you a like for like replacement with the same rating
We had changed ours and couldn't tell any difference in ease of lifting, that's when I checked the rating and found we had been sent 1700N and needed 2400N to match what we had
SGS were disappointingly unhelpful on this one, but I have learnt that I should have checked first[/QUOTE
It's really strange, how come yours are rated originally at 2400 and mine only 1000N, unsure now what to order?
although I would agree with your logic, what I don't understand is that would imply my bed is more then twice as heavy as yours, yet you say yours takes some moving
we have to really push ours up hard to engage the seat belt clip, which is then the only thong holding it up, very scary thought
I have heard of one coming unbuckled and clouting a driver while on the road, that could be a serious issueI do know he survived to tell us the tale

ours measure 390mm hole centre to hole centre, but that is with the SGS fitting as photo which lengthened it by 19mm too much
The arm unscrews from the lower fixing so we have now left bottom ones fitted screwed in new strut and reattached at top only
If you want to try 1700N I would think the worst that you will fibd is the bed slightly lifts till someone is on it, or buy a heavier duvet
You can have my 1700N for half price to try as I can’t send them backneed to get Terry back to remove them first though
