Towbar and 7 pin electrics been on van 2 years all ok.
By pass relay fitted not dedicated electrics.

Coming of ferry earlier this year and bar scrapped on floor.
Cable was under bar and rubbed outer rubber casing and into the wires.
Have stripped it back and found 1 wire snapped ( brown i think it was).
2 others were scraped but not broken.
Did a repair by soldering broken wire back together, taped up.
Put tape over other exposed wire..
Insulation tape and amalagmating tape use to protect cable..

NOW.. The problem..
Van lights all ok and trailer board all working EXCEPT rear N/S and O/S lights.
I am going to strip the wires back again to make sure there isn't another break BUT anyone offer any other info.. Is there a chance the bypass relay has failed just on the rear lights ??

With the lights switched on check with a digital meter if there's 12 volts at the socket pins first, its possible that when the cable got rubbed it pulled the wires out of the socket.

Cheers...

I did the cable repair thinking it was a simple fix... Confident on my rewire..
As per Dave's suggestion, just had the rear socket all stripped down..
Nothing loose and a volt meter test shows nothing to the tail lights.

Stripped the step cover out to locate the bypass relay..
No voltage out of that for rear lights so looks like thats the problem..
All input and other voltages check out ok....

Get your meter out and find where the break is before stripping any more cable. Have you checked all the fuses for a start? You also might want to reroute the cable, so it isn't the first thing to touch the ground.

Cable got re-routed just after it happened....:thumb:
All fuses check ok and after a test of the bypass it seems thats the issue...
Will get a replacement ASAP as I want to take bike to Stratford next week and need the tailboard...

many many years! since I was a kid
if you short out some bypass relays they fail. the only answer is wire in a replacement. shouldnt take long as all the cables are already tapped into the loom

ALL SORTED...

New bypass relay for local towbar shop... Fitted and all working...
Can only assume the scrape on the floor shorted the wiring and blew part of the bypass.....
