Had Tinitus for over 20 years and have managed okay but since arriving in Spain 5 weeks ago its driving me mad as it’s now got very loud,I believe that it’s called a Tinitus spike, still trying to work out what’s different to being at home, Any fellow sufferers out there.

Yes. Also for many years and really only noticeable at sleep time.

I've looked all over the place and not seen much hope for getting rid of it. There's a shedload on YouTube.

Android has quite a few masking programs that play various noises to try and mask the sound.

Yes,but obviously not as bad as you at the moment.
I’m able to blank it out most of the time, fortunately.
I know it’s very easy to say it............but try to ignore it.

Yes, I too suffer from tinnitus which for me is constant white noise although for a couple of years before we moved to this house I had a very low frequency throbbing noise which was like a very large diesel engine on tickover some distance away on top of the white noise, but luckily I left that behind when we moved.
Mine does become very intense if I use something like an angle grinder and forget to use ear defenders.

Something has set it off, I have the usually high pitched sound but a lot louder than normal, I also have the low pitched one which sounds like a ships engine noise when you get a noisy cabin.

Can drive you insane at times. It's linked to blood pressure, so if it's high then it gets worse and no cure at this time.

I get a whistling noise the comes after too much coffee, probably caffeine. Sometimes there, sometimes not

We met some friends in Benidorm last week and I had 4 cups of coffee but that night the high pitched noise was the worst that I have ever had, trying just one coffee now with any more de caffeinated.

Had it checked out in a Farmacia in Villajoyosa the other day but it was normal.

Me too. Mine sound like the sea breaking on a stone beach. I put headphones in takes my mind off of it. It’s not here when wearing my hearing aids. As they say been there got the T shirt

Had it for about 20 years. Left side is like white noise, right side pulsates and makes a swishing noise. I have been to the quacks and had hearing tests, I have a slight loss in both ears due to age. I have also had CBT cognitive behavioural techniques to “Zone” it out. You can get an improvement with certain music therapy. I have noticed if I take ibuprofen it gets louder?
You have to find a trigger and avoid it if you can, good luck.

Absolutely, but it fluctuates throughout the day. Atmospheric pressure also effects the heart, hence blood pressure, as does coffee, snogging and sexy stuff ;)

Yep me too.
Mine sounds like a constant white noise with 2 different high frequency tones
I’ve tried the masking apps.
I like to have some kind of noise going on to try and mask it.
Apparently some foods and anaesthetics, drugs can cause it to be worse.
I blame mine on not using ear protection at work and load music.i
I now always tell the youngsters to put their earmuffs on.
I’ve read that hearing aids can help.

It looks like youngsters are a lost cause, so many walking around with things stuck in their ears, and some of the sound coming out of passing cars is appalling.

I have problem as well. One thought now you are in Spain & relaxing more are you less distracted by home stresses and so more aware and ‘listening’ to it. I am so much better when busy. A few things make it worse, one is driving any distance especially on noisy roads and the second is definitely stress. Sometimes my ears are just ‘noisy’ and I realise it annoys me but then I try and distract myself.
As someone once said the worse thing about tinnitus is never being able to ‘hear’ silence.

Sadly I have had it for over 40 years, believe the cause to be motorbikes with no helmets back in the day before regulation and a long time as security at gigs all around London stood on the edge of the stage in front of enormous speakers.
Always there 24/7 very loud whistling, very intrusive, tried expensive American remedies, snake oil.
Now wear ear plugs when sleeping or on the motorcycle but just too little to late.
Have read of people committing suicide, never felt that bad but sometimes close.
I find the sound lessens if I push my lower jaw forward,I did box a lot when young but don’t ever remember receiving any injuries to lower jaw, weird.
Would give anything for a cure, ruins my life.

I've had it 20yrs, mostly a white rushing/shushing noise. The best relief/mask is to spend a day fishing next to the large weir on a local river or to ride my motorbike without earplugs. That's my excuse anyway ;)
I think red wine exacerbates it.

I have had it for about 40 years mainly brought on when I was a fabrication fitter hammering on plate metal--no ear defenders then.I have partial loss in both ears as well . I am lucky enough to only notice it when I think about it--"ringing "in both ears worse in left one.I have accepted that I am stuck with it and accept this.Must be a problem if you cant accept it though.

ride my motorbike without earplugs.

Was doing that yesterday and funnily enough wondered if it might be making things worse. I've got more annoyed by it due to my sleep problem this last month. It's at it's worse right when you want to sleep as I'm sure you know.

Mine is the same and also have the low frequency noise, but only at times.
It's not so bad that it drives me mad and most of the time I’m not aware of it.
My mother had tinnitus for years so I suppose I might have inherited it but I don’t think mine was helped by frequently standing beside a Vulcan on full power.

Richard.

Mine is mainly left ear. I suspect mine is from blood testing pigs without ear protectors! Yes really!

Maybe that's been a contributory factor due to my nearly 60 yrs of biking but with earplugs and no external noise the tinnitus volume is awful.

I too suffer with it, had it for about 10yrs, suspect it was a result of 22yrs in armed forces and not using the correct ear defenders. Most of time can ignore it and doesn't keep me awake but has worsened.
Just listened to Bob Mortimer clips from Would I Lie to You, Dave Gilmour live at Pompei and then Supertramp, so for last 2hrs some welcome relief. GRRRR.... LIVING THE DREAM. SMUDGER55

B12 deficiency can cause tinnitus. It was the first symptom to go after I started treatment. Bliss! I didn’t realise how bad it had been. Next my fingertips and toes came back to life. It’s possible in Spain you could get a quite extensive blood test done easily and quite cheaply. Look at the results, it will show your reading followed by the range in brackets. Below the range, or near the bottom of the range, read up online or see a doctor.

Interesting to hear your BP link appreciAte any further Info

I had the low frequency throbbing variety for years that nearly sent me mad in the end. Then I had the good fortune to meet a fantastic dispensing chemist who explained that the problem is due to your eustacien tubes becoming congested and acting like amplifiers of the noise created by bloodflow ( no-one else had ever mentionedd this to me before). He proscribed a capsul 'Carbocistiene Hard' along with a nasal spray 'Mometasone Furate' Within about two weeks it suddenly cleared and I have been free of it ever since! If you suffer, do try this medication, it really did the trick for me, I cant thank this gem of a man enough for his diagnosis and care. Karsens Pharmacy in Chatham proper old school Chemist.
I have been clear of it for about 18 months now with no recurrence, I still use the nasal spray every night. I feel for anyone with this, it really is awful and I can believe people getting suicidal and paranoid because of it.
Good luck with it.

Yep. Since an RTA when I was sixteen I’ve had ringing in my left ear.
The other year it got worse with an extra noise matching my pulse.
Had two types of scan (An MRI & ???). Nothing showed up on those.
Later the new noise cleared up so just back to my old friend - the ringing.

Edit: that extra noise I had was the unlike what steve 6644 described. That‘s the power of sharing ?

Hi can I get this over the counter or do l have to see my doctor I had it for years it do put you in a mood all the time your awake I would like to try this thanks Andy

I wish it was that simple. I have had an MRI scan, all types of nasal sprays, antibiotics. Have low blood pressure and still have it. As usual it’s worse when I’m writing this as I am thinking about it!
