I noticed this socket hanging loose under the bonnet today. Does anyone know what (if anything) it should be connected to please? Seems odd to have a socket hanging loose like this.

Its on the left side as you face the engine (drivers off-side) of the engine compartment next to the windscreen washer bottle reservoir. Van is a 2019 Ducato

I think you'll find most vehicles have them on the wiring loom.
They use the same loom for a variety of models so it depends on your vehicle spec.
Unused connections just hand loose.

You are correct

that would make sense ... The only optional extra I could think of was it might be an extra pump connector for headlight washers.... can't remember ever seeing a Ducato van with headlight washers though

if theres no corresponding plug within reach it could be for anything thats not fitted deisel heater foglights the list is endless

Just checked our 2016 Ducato X250 and no extra plug so probably for an extra although as it is a sealed wire connector it should have a blanking cap fitted to stop warer ingress into the harness.
Personally i would stick a bit of duct tape over the connector end otherwise you could have corroded terminals and water/moisture could get back up the wiring harness.
Best just to ask the dealership on your next service or send photos to Fiat technical via on-line but if everything is working ok just protect it, check it and forget it???

As said they use a standard loom for all models, if you look around you will a few connectors at various points on the loom.
Hab electrics are even worse, I have loads of spare connectors on my hab loom and twice as much cable as it really needs looped about under the floor, a nightmare following it when doing mods.

Thanks for suggestions - I’m due into garage next week for the recall work so I’ll ask them then ?
