Yeh, its your fuel pump, not sure what bigger black pipe is but probably a vent/breather pipe

dont disconnect the pipes and switch the ignition on..... as a recovery mechanic IDIOT did to my van .......... yo'll get wet!!!

The electrical wires are for your fuel lift pump and the sender unit for your fuel gauge which are installed inside the tank, the pipes will be a breather, a supply pipe and the return pipe from your injectors.

Sorry to highjack this thread, but.........does anyone know what that silver box is for, located forward of the battery compartment (as shown in the first OP's pic).

Beat me to it, suspect its the airbag ECU or crash sensor due to the yellow wiring.
Don't bang it with anything or tamper with it.

Low-pressure diesel pump to the high-pressure one on the engine, one feed pipe one return and probable the filling pipe from the cap

Most modern vehicles with Fuel injection, have the Fuel supply pressure pump in the tank. That is what you are looking at.

Did wonder myself what was under that round cap in the floor, saved me taking the top off to have a nose.

Secondary Safety System Electronic Control Unit.

Airbag sensor
Pretty much, plus others - seat belt pre-tensioner for one. In fact that might be the only other - can't remember. If I remember correctly, it's not actually the sensor itself, it's the bit that decides what to do next when the sensor sends it's signal to it.

Expensive when they go wrong, which is not uncommon. Fiat replaced quite a lot under warranty, including mine as a goodwill gesture when it was technically just out of warranty.

Excellent thank you. It's always good to know where things are in case of a breakdown. I'll put the cover back on now and leave it in peace!

I'm really getting to know my van now, excellent!

You could disconnect it or fit a cut off switch/relay into one of the pump wires. The thinner wires will be the level sensor.

Unlikely to put the engine warning light on as its just a pump with no feedback. But only a thief would be trying to start it when its off anyway so won't be an issue

Not a good idea to keep disconnecting it in case you bend a pin or break one off as you'll be stranded then.

A switch would be a better long term solution if considering it. Immobiliser/alarms would tend to break into the feed elsewhere rather than directly at the pump but does the same job.

If parking up for a length of time its an extra anti-theft measure I suppose
