I was up on the roof today (measuring the solar panel, but that is an entirely different thread), and something that has bugged me since we got Mouse caught my eye again. What is this metal frame towards the front on the roof for?

Don't know, but you need to clean the roof while your up there.

Looks to me to be a base plate for a solar panel thats fixed up to be angled to the sun....

My thoughts are the base frame for a large fibreglass roof box. (AKA an air brake)
It appears to drop into the frame and slide to the left as viewed.

I agree and there does not appear to have any cable input to the motorhome.

Thanks, that about sums up the possibilities. Interestingly, the solar panel has another mount next to it for a second panel (whichvwe are thinking of using, which is why I was up there with the tape measure), and there is a satellite dish (which we don't use and are thinking of removing and selling) further back.

I think that makes me feel better that it's not obvious at least.

It's to hold a kneeling board so that you can clean the roof comfortably

That is the dirtiest roof I have seen since I last looked at mine some years ago.
