Morning!

I have a problem with my Gearbox on my 2007 Sprinter.

I was driving along the motorway, moderate 60 mph, there was a thud under my left foot near the gearbox.

*The 4 cylinder Engine used to rev at around 3,000rpm at 70 mph. Now, its more like 3,500 but in 5th gear?.
*All the torque seems to have gone and the engine revs a lot more without speeding up as fast.
*It still drives, albeit with now low down pull or power.

It feels a bit like a manual with a slipping clutch!

85,000 miles on the clock, had an Gearbox Oil change by ENZA at 50,000

I am the one (according to Mercedes Dealer). The only one in the UK with an Automatic 7 Seat SWB Traveliner.

So, before I pop it into a Mercedes Dealer or Specialist. Does anyone have any ideas, suggestions or similar experiences please?.

If its a electronic fault most modern gearboxes default to 3rd gear if a fault is detected, if not electronic, then if the clutches in the box are not slipping then it looks like you torque converter is shot, a stall test will confirm it.

Sprinters go into limp mode, 2nd gear. Its not that but could be the converter I think

A stall test is not something to be attempted if you do not know what your doing, best take to somebody local who specializes in auto repair work.

Don't know where you are but Martin Lowe in Barnsley is probably one of the best automatic transmission specialists in the UK.
There's a lot of idiots who pretend to know about them but know nothing. I've used him aand know of others who have also been happy with his work.

I had no lockup an a ford ATX it was nowhere near 500revs different. And ran for years like that.
I would think as a guess it is a torque converter issue, its possibly cracked. The trouble is when they crack you never know what metal particles have got in the transmission fluid. S it is more often than not safer to get the whole box reconditioned.

On mine when the lock up went, also years ago,lol It was 500rpm

mine used to be 120kmh= 2000rpm
140kmh =2500rpm.
when the lock up died ,under load it would be at 2500rpm at 120kmh.As you say mine went on for years.

Was convinced I had auto gear box problems middle of last year on my 2006 Sprinter. Lost power and had to continually change down manually. Took it to the guy who does our servicing and through a process of elimination, he narrowed the problem down to the Turbo Vacuum Boost Valve.

Bought a replacement and fitted it myself in no time at all. Could not believe that such a small part could have such a significant effect on such a big vehicle (5.9ton chassis).
