Morning, we are heading off to France tomorrow on Plymouth cruises to Roscoff, we have booked our first stay in Airvault near Thouars, after that we are heading to Limoges area. Does anyone know any decent stops for a few days in that area?

Just a little north of Limoges is a beautiful chateau with camping in its grounds. We stopped off there on the way home last year. Would definitely stay again.

If you have never been, oradour sur glane is not to be missed, not pleasant but very thought provoking and there is a good aire within walking distance.

Have you got 'Searchforsites'?

I only ask because it gives all near on all the available motorhome stops and
accommodation that you would like to find in France.

For instance, you mentioned Airvault just South of Thours.

There is a free Aire in Airvault listed in S4S that has a score of 9.5 .

What is there not to like about that.

No music while we were there. Don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing 😊😊

S4S is the best £6 you can spend in the known camping world. Must have saved us a fortune over the years. I would not be without it.

This is a pleasant site, large pitches plus a swimming pool, run by a dutch couple.

Agree, the site at Oradour sur glane is worth while if visiting the village there which has been retained in the destroyed state that the Nazis left it in after killing all the occupants one day in retaliation for the killing of a German officer. A very thought provoking visit.

Motorhome broke down in the storage unit prior to departure, fuel everywhere. Trip delayed until…..?

Damn. Hope it can be sorted asap. Re info around Limoges, we are currently at Lac de
Frace I reckon about 90km west. It's a great little free Aire. No ehu but free water and WC point, plus has toilets which are clean. Lots of walks around the lake itself. We've stayed here three times now and never been disappointed

Another alternative is Vertuil sur Charente - beautiful little village and ehu available (parking, water and WC emptying is free)

When we were there last year there were groups of landscape artists painting the Charente river as it passed through the village. It really is a picturesque setting.

You haven’t just had a fuel filter replaced by any chance have you? Fiat professional changed ours and dumped fuel all down the M1.👎
It’s a male to female connector on the fuel supply, that won’t couple now. Crappy bit of plastic nonsense.

Yeah, we have been to vertuil before, very nice village on the river, had a tea room on the rivers edge I think.

Got the van back yesterday, waited 10 days for a part from Italy. Parked the van at Carnon Wollas, campsite betwixt Falifornia and Truro. Pitches come with a great view and everything is clean and tidy, definitely recommend. Dogs are all AHC’d again and Plymouth cruises are booked for Tuesday night. Trip is back on again and Spain looks like it’s warming up nicely. Happy days

There was a campsite we stayed on at Lac d’Uzurat, but it closed in 2018! It was only a short bus ride into Limoges.
You could stay on the Futuroscope aire outside Poitiers. Futur…is a hoot, even for a couple who don’t do theme parks. And you can get the bus into Poitiers which we found more interesting than Limoges; you have to be VERY interested in porcelain to visit the museum there (v dull!).

We are currently staying here after a lovely week in Airvault, campsite is great, clean showers and loos (no toilet paper though). 90% of the folks here are Dutch. Great forest walks and a lake with a beach 15 min stomp away. Weather a bit pants though but getting better.
