I have 2 boat reels here one is a Scarbough type it is not a home made one and is 8 inch dia
The other is a Alcock & Co Redictch England ,it’s a 6 inch Commordore big game in as new condition this reel has a manual brake lever also ratchet and friction settings I don’t think they make things of this quality any more
If anyone has any interest in them pm me.

I have a Alcock & Co center pin reel that my Dad bought for me the first time he took me wreck fishing when I was eight so fifty years ago. I couldn't handle the overrun on a multiplier reel so this was his way of keeping me tangle free

This one has a Lever brake on the top I would say for that very reason and to give your arm a rest when you have something heavy on the hook ?
