Spotted this & wondered if there is something like this that can be bought or if there are any other good solutions?

A glare protection for the navigation device

Glare protection for the navigation device

What to do when the sun is blinding? Wilfried Hintzmann from Baunatal drives a Globecar Campscout FR, built in 2014, on a Fiat Ducato. The monitor of the built-in naviceiver is difficult to read in strong sunlight. A glare protection for the display was needed. Wilfried Hintzmann first made a template out of cardboard that fitted into the grooves on the center console between the radio slot and the adjacent air outlets. This cardboard pattern was then transferred to a 3mm sheet of rigid foam the color of the dashboard. Warmed up with a hot air dryer, it was easily bent into shape over a rounded board. The contours can be cut out with a cutter knife. The glare protection is fixed with adhesive rubber in the grooves on both sides of the naviceiver.

That looks really good and useful. I can't see anything on my double din head unit due to reflections, especially from the panoramic roof light.

Off to order some rigid foam now

Thanks👍

and it gives a flat surface to mount your Tyrepal monitor and dashcam onto!(y)

Please let us know how easy it is to do & what materials you source. Wondered if it could be 3D printed but probably too big for that, plus would be heavy & expensive.

Having a search around to interweb, it looks like it's Foamex that we need. (y)

I've got some black U shaped trim lying around as an alternative to the chrome trim shown in the OP photo.
