Just looking
Folowing on from my intro....I've decided to buy a motorhome and travel all over europe, I don't have much knowledge at all but I do know what I want/need.

It'll be just me & my wife and although 60 & 58 we are both fit cyclists and hikers, we don't want a big van to live in, we want a small van to sleep in, with a bathroom. It seems that the old Autosleeper Symphony (& variants) would be fine, I like old stuff and am not bothered by age, my scooter is 1962, my car 1992, both are maintained and neither give any problems. The problem for me is that the interiors must be like living in a kaleidoscope.....

A bit newer and I've looked at the Trigano Tributes, newer still & I do like the look of the Murvi Morello, any issues I should be looking at with these?

So that's the type of van we'd want, small, manouverable, easy to park anywhere. Reliable, not bothered about performance. We need a decent sized double bed as I'm 6', a chamfered is ok as my wife is a pipsqueak. Kitchen area can be small, it's not that important to us (I don't think) but a bathroom is neccessary.

Budget? I saw an 2003 Autosleeper on Ebay yesterday for £12K, it'd have been perfect, it sold in about 2 hours! At that price a few bumps & scrapes & non functioning stuff wouldn't bother me at all. But I can double that figure, maybe a bit more and am not too bothered about residual values.

I work rotating shifts so a reply might not alwasy be quick, but I'II definitely read any replies. I'm based near Leeds.

I should have said....I am not 100% fixed on van based and am happy to take advice on something else that matches our requirements.

Welcome.

Subscribe (starts at £20) and you can take a look in the Classified Ad’s as well as the members areas. You only get 5 free posts. Vans come up in there reasonably often.👍

Yamaha rider?

Layout, layout, layout.......you will get a "feel" for what is right for you as you explore the options.

:welcome4:  I thoroughly agree with the comments above. I was also ok with a 'wedge' bed, until my missus got fed up with me climbing over to go to the loo:giggle:

As Steve69 said and this is commonly stated ....Layout layout layout.
Before buying our ( still to be delivered ) Carado V337 we managed to get to see quite a few motorhomes (before and during covid)
and it became clear what we liked and didn't, we initially looked at used with a budget of 40k but hated the old styling within
many vans and since we wanted to travel extensively we didn't want to wake up to upholstery that made us want to vomit :roflmto:
We then came across some rental vans and the Sunlight V66 which we loved for so many reasons ...to cut a long story short
managed to find after much searching a Carado ( same manufacturer as sunlight ) with a guaranteed fixed price that was up specked
and above our original budget but felt it worth the extra ££ .....

Visit large motorhome dealers and Motorhome Shows. See as many different layouts and condition of vehicles as you can. Bodywork (damp) is more expensive to repair than mechanical parts. Try and get a picture from the reports in Motorhome Fun as to which makes to look for.

If you don't like the upholstery on the Autosleeper Symphony you can always get it reupholstered in a plainer fabric.

I have a Murvi Morocco which has a very long bed but Murvis also have very big kitchens although I can't see that being a problem. Murvis are very well put together so you shouldn't have any structural problems. PVCs rarely suffer from damp but finding a second-hand Murvi at the moment will be a challenge. The Murvi Club website is only carrying "Wanted" adverts at the moment, nothing for sale.

Welcome.

I didn't mind my hubby climbing over me to visit the loo but wasn't so keen on the damp dangle across my belly on the way back. :giggle:
