I know how to change a tyre in car doh! But in my new 3.5 tonnne MH I’ve got a jell and compressor pack to reinflate the tyre. Is it really that simple ? I’ve no jack as far as I can tell . Comments ? #juniormhowner

It's a self inflation kit for temporary minor repairs.
{ Cheaper to supply than a spare wheel / tyre }

It is, assuming your compressor can reach the tyre pressure required!

Massive amount of discussions on MHfun about taking a spare wheel with you, just search all the threads.

Don’t waste your time. If you get a puncture without a spare tyre and a proper jack just call out your recovery company. The re-inflation kits never work properly and the power cable is probably too short to reach too!

So they supply an air compressor that probably won't inflate it high enough and is unlikely to reach the defective tyre anyway. On top of that they supply a pot of goo that proceeds to spew out onto tarmac and make no attempt what so ever of actually plugging the leak...
So what you are saying then it is not fit for purpose then.........
I'd be straight back to the dealer with that!

You should still have a jack regardless - have a look under your passenger seat for a large black box/case as that's the favourite place for them.

As for the goo etc ... we NEVER go anywhere without a spare wheel, if our MHs didn't come with one we bought one - whilst we've never had to actually use one we've come very, very close especially in Italy where the roads had a good chew of the sidewall tread of one of our tyres, when we got back home we had it replaced to be just to be safe.

Any tyre that has been inflated with the chemical kit is afterwards ....scrap! It will get you back to a garage for a check up only. They will not repair a puncture long term if the chemical is used. Reason being...it cannot be removed to fix the patch ! It needs vulcanising to adhere to the walls of the repair which the chemical repair screws up!
Chemical repairs stop the glue adhering to the tyre walls.

Has anybody tried the puncture proof liquid they were selling at the NEC? Used it years ago on my push bikes, think it was £149 and looked pretty good, having said that most things look good until it’s really needed.

Lol! It was for all 4 tyres, but I get your point! It looks like it self seals...........

As others have said the goo is next to useless and a temporary fix if it works at all. I refused to proceed with my first van until the dealer provided a spare wheel and tyre....fortunately it had somewhere to store it which can be another issue. I now travel with a proper spare in an underslung cradle, a large compressor capable of delivering more than enough pressure and a jack that is fit for purpose. That said on a wet & windy roadside I'd probably still call the rescue services to do it!

yep i have puncture safe in my tyres.... it is simple to DIY and cost me just under £10 a wheel.. and... when the tyres were changed there was no issue with the tyre fitters or removing any excess goo that was in there.

no good for a blow out or side wall damage but; i have witnessed wheels being driven over a plank with large nails and screws in and the tyre only minimally deflated and the puncture sealed.

i will get my tin hat out now and await the flak......

your choice is..... spare wheel ; tyre with no rim; etc etc, its down to your personal choice and whatever enables you to sleep comfortably at night.
however, i would not rely solely on the goo and compressor supplied with the vehicle.

Here is an aside for those carrying spare wheels. Make sure that you have removed the wheel nuts and put copper grease on the threads ( don't forget to replace your nuts afterwards ). I had to dig out a 3/4" torque wrench, and buy a new socket to free my rusty old nuts when I had a puncture. Fortunately a six wheeled LDV convoy has a spare rear wheel on each side, and there weren't any police about. I broke the wheel brace when I tried to remove the first nut by the roadside.

Not just motorhomes, my car has just gunk and a compressor even though theres room for a skinny spare wheel. Out of four vehicles the only one with a proper spare is the motorhome, and that I fitted myself on the towbar. The cars have 1xgunk and 2xskinny wheels. Fortunately its normally only the MH that goes abroad. Anything in the UK call the AA Ive been paying them for the last 50 years so they can do something to earn their money.

The compressor supplied with our Fiat Hymer will reach all four wheels and will reach required pressure, I can’t comment on the gunk as never needed to use it as others have said it will only be for a smallish puncture and certainly not a blow out. So we always carry a spare.??
