Have just fitted a s/hand 3 way fridge and don't think its "cooling" .Its been on gas for about 3 hours and I would have thought the freezer dept would be frosting over by now.Am I too hasty?I have put a thermometer in side freezer.

Takes about 5 hours + to get really cold

Do the cooling fins at the back of the freezer feel cold ?

On ours the freezer gets cold quicker than the fridge

You should switch it off and leave it for about 24 hours for all the freeon ( coolant gas ) to settle back into the holding tank. Try it then and hopefully will be fine .

Ours takes about half an our before starting to drop. After 3 hours it should be well cold.

Was it sold as working ?
I would have thought you'd be able to tell by now it it was cooling.
Not having much fridge luck are you.
Did you establish the problem with the original one ?

Yes its guaranteed.Am going to try the "old" method --turning it upside down for a day then trying again as it has been standing unused for quite a while.

It worked for me, but don't forget to also let it settle for a day afterwards before switching on.

I'm with hymerman let it settle for 24 hours then try again. You shouldn't need to invert it, just moving it around ought to have "unsettled" the refrigerant so it needs to settle again.

Meanwhile, stupid question maybe but does the gas burner actually light up? Have you tried it on electric?

On gas ours cools down noticeably within a few minutes, electric takes around an hour although now I've fitted a new element hopefully it will be quicker.

Sounds stupid, but have you checked the gas burner is actually lit and the control dial is set to gas?

It's easy to check if the burner is on by putting your hand over the exhaust vent, you should feel very warm air coming out. If there's warm air being exhausted then it should be working.

I've always found the idea of leaving a motorhome fridge to stand for 24 hours a bit odd! Our vans move constantly and they're either being used on battery while moving or electric/gas the moment they stop. I totally understand why a domestic fridge needs to stand.

Anyone know the actual reason they should be left 24 hours?.... presuming you haven't been rolling it down a hill before installation!

Agree that it doesn't seem to make sense, but I had an old fridge that wouldn't work , inverted it , left it for a day and then it worked. Maybe coincidence , maybe magic.
