I'm getting 2-3 calls every week offering me free boiler upgrades through a Gov led initiative, ask me to press button 2 to be put through to an adviser, I normally put the phone down but last week I spoke to the advisor, as soon as it was clear i wasnt eligble he couldn't get off the phone quick enough, not stopped them calling though, had another four calls since.oh:

How does that work?

It just plugs into your phone line, no electric required.
It knows most of the nuisance numbers, and automatically blocks them.
If one gets through (none have on mine), then there is a button to block them in future.

I enjoy the sport as well.

Went through a period of getting calls allegedly from Microsoft claiming my computer was generating error reports.

First time I played along for quite a long time, playing dumb and doing exactly what I was told - until I was told to run an exe file from their website when I decided this had gone far enough - so I told them I understood exactly what they were doing. (DO NOT do this unless you know your way round computers!)

Second time I used a different approach. Pointed out that if they really had got an error report from me, they must also have my IP address and therefore they could tell me what it is. After 10 mins arguing they hung up.

Not been bothered since!

Ahhhhhhh, with that you have to be most careful. My (very) old mum lives in Dorset. She had her phone altered so you only saw 'caller withheld' if she rang you. Ignored her for almost two months.

Could be right out of the will now.......

Depending on how I feel,I can be confused,deaf,stupid-easy for me,but the best is to put the phone to one side saying 'someones at the door' or 'excuse me I've left a pan on' and go and make a cup of coffee and maybe some toasted,take about 10-15 minutes, When you return to the phone you have dial tone.
I love winding up the 'Microsoft' calls,they do get upset.

It's very strange but whenever "Andrew" or "Charles" ring trying to get me to answer a few questions or check a virus on my PC it always coincides with the testing of my smoke alarm. I think it very rude of them not to hang on until this important test has been completed.
