3 years 30,000 miles UK and Europe.. Campsites and off Grid.
In Italy at the mo and while the journey down has been great and cheap, the further south we get finding 'official' places to stop is becoming harder and more expensive. Even basic facility 'Sostas' are getting to the 20-30 euro region.

Sitting here in a empty car park in Baia Domizia by the beach, 25 degrees, blues sky, chairs out, costing nothing and no holiday makers to be seen I started to reminisce as we stopped in a 'Eurocamp' tent here about 20 years ago.

I went on the Eurocamp site to see what they are offering now. 2 bed (sleeps 6) cabin with al mod cons inc Air Con is mid June is £40 per night! Pitch for a motorhome is pretty much the same.

Why would one take a motorhome on there with those prices for fixed accommodation? Why isn't a bit of grass a lot cheaper!

Also, in comparison to UK sites - what a bargain!

That seems a great price for the cabin

Thanks for cheering me up with that. It absolutely pouring down with rain here. Dogs wouldn't even come out with me for a walk this morning, so I left them and went on my own as I so needed to just get out.

Gina.

Same here. Hosing it down here so hunkered down in the van. Luckily it is a cheap Haven site that cost about a tenner a night including EHU

I've mulled that over too, taking the car. Cheaper ferry.......car mpg twice that of the motorhome..........easier parking when visiting places.............
For many years I toured abroad by car and by motorbike using cabins and hotels. A cabin's O.K. if you know and like an area but I prefer to wander at will without advance booking. It's the lifestyle benefits rather than the cost that attract me to having the m/h but I am occasionally tempted to try different transport and accommodation arrangements.

Totally agree with you here. Not really my type of holiday anymore. We did it when our kids were young. Eurocamp was great for cost effective/hassle free touring of Europe with kids. It just shocked me when I realised how cheap it was for what you get.

About 10 years ago (pre mohome) we did a couple of holidays with Canvas staying in mobile homes and touring. One trip we did 1 night in guines, 2 nights in Burgundy, 3 in Ramatuelle, 7 in Florence, 7 near Venice, 2 in Annecy and 1 back in guines. Including the tunnel was just under £300 in April/May. Would be £1000s in peak season.

Mrs Emmit is going through a health mill at the mo. and, if she can escape from the quacks after Christmas we have it mind to book a Winter Sun 4weeks in an apartment in the Sun with BF.
Ferry, cabin and the car both ways included.
What's not to like.

We are currently on a lovely C&CC Site, (Conkers), in Derbyshire. Cost for hard standing and EHU is £20.32 per night. I have paid as much for CLs.

We have been wandering around the Lot Region in France. Used one Campsite rare to find one open , 14 euros per night with ACSI A few free Aires Gourdon. 2 euros for ehu. 8 points. For the rest we have used the Camping Carpark group. Old municipal sites now being run by them. All have services and ehu average cost 11 euros, so £10 approx. Now overlooking a lake .
The last pic was from the camperpark at Carpendac . Site on the banks of the Lot.
Somehow the U.K. does not have the same appeal!! “Park between the post “
