As you now know, the new CAMC website requires a date of birth for the lead traveller.

This morning, when I tried to book a site, the only way of entering my DOB was to back-arrow through every month. As you can imagine, at my almost-pensionable age, this would take for ever!

Has anyone found a way round this? There doesn't seem to be a way of entering the date manually on my android tablet.

Yes, go to an independent camp site and boycott the idiots 🤪

Yes there is a way round it Janine. Cancel you membership. They’re not worth bothering with.
I am rapidly heading that way. I just like the security of staying on club sites rather than venturing into the unknown....

Have you tried selecting 'Desktop Mode' if it's using a browser?

Janine - we gave up on the CAMC and stuck with the C&CC. At least they have pop up sites all through the year, we only use those, not the official sites - far too expensive if you don’t need the facilities.

Also, the pop up sites are usually within walking distance of the town’s they’re in 👍

Both clubs cater for caravanners with cars, so are usually miles from anywhere.

As I said the pop up sites are Motorhome friendly, close to the action as it were!

I am a member of C&CC too but their sites do mostly seem to be in the middle of nowhere - I like to walk/catch a bus somewhere rather than try parking the moho especially here in Cornwall.

Not many THS at this time of year ☹

So glad we don’t use club site. That system would seriously test my sanity. 😬🤬

Thanks for that!

If you go onto the site you want as if you are booking it, you can scroll down to the calendar and change the month. As far as I can see, if it has a price on the date you want, it is available.

It's certainly a challenge at the moment!

Another reason for using the club sites, as a solo traveller I pay a lot less per night as they are priced per person.

I resent paying for my imaginary friend 🤪

If these sites are asking for personal data ask them for a full report of all of that data that they have on computer relating to you (GDPR rules). I believe if they are recording your details against any sites that you have or intend to visit that should also be listed back to you. I don't think they are entitled to charge you for that information and that they have to respond within a limited time.

If everyone does that and does it frequently they will quickly give up asking personal questions. Why do they need an exact DoB anyway? Surely an age range would give them the demographic that they need for research.

To me, it seems the CMC made the mistake of asking its members (such as me) what they wanted but forgot to consider whether it had the capability to deliver the IT systems necessary.

Years ago it had a workable system whereby members could book on-line, over the phone, or just turn up on the off-chance. But members began to abuse this system by booking sites in the distant future and then not turning up. I would say the cause of the latest IT problem should be shared between those members who abused the workable system we had and the CMC which should learn its limitations.

As for pop up sites, the CMC does them (sort of) but also runs rallies through the local groups - well over 100 a year.

At CMC site just now. Warden, sorry manager, said to delete iPhone app and then download again as the existing app wasn’t compatible with new system. App works now so don’t need to go near website.

l tried using CAMC this morning and couldn't see any of my bookings when l click my uk site bookings,l gave them a call and an hour later it was still not resolved, so l suggested l would try another internet browser and hey ho it worked. l then said they must have a software glitch with chrome browser but the CAMC adviser didn't seem interested in reporting it to correct dept (n)

Plenty of nice indies, who can be cheaper, Doubletrees caravan and camping, £20 per night in high season.
Just outside St Austell and it a walk away from The Eden Project, nice facilities and you would love the owner she is a star😁😁

On some other sites with a similar drop down system, I've been able to select a date, such as today. Then click on the date that occurs on the page and it " highlights" and you can then manually edit it to your DOB.

I was there last week! You are right - Sue is a star 😀

In edit: I am currently on the CAMC site at Marazion and paying £12.80 a night with ehu.

I used the site last night, what a nightmare.
Talk about 1step forward 2 back. All they needed to do with the old system was to speed it up, it was ever so clunky.

Absolutely!

I still can’t get the date of birth window to do anything other than back-arrow for 65x12 months.

I got back to the year 2000 before giving up so if they want to tell me that I look older than 22 when I check in tomorrow, they can 😂
