I'm a newbie
Hi, this is my first post so please be gentle. I'm in the very early stages of looking at motorhomes (so much to learn) and approximately what the annual running costs would be. I'm struggling to find out how much tax and insurance would cost. I realise it is so variable depending upon many factors, but just a ball park figure would do.

So for example, something like a 2016 Fiat Autotrail Imala 615, what sort of figures are we looking at for tax and insurance?

As I say just a rough idea will do please.

Thanks

Tax is the same as a car, insurance probably averages out around £300

Insurance depends a lot on your postcode but at a guess £300 to £400.
VED 3500kg and under £295, over 3500 kg £165.

As you say, variable and dependent on make and model and provider. For RFL/VED, https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-tax-rate-tables/rates-for-motorhomes might be helpful; there are only three options, the most expensive being £295.

For insurance roughly £250 plus tax so nudging to £300, add in breakdown cover (which is often the cheaper way to do it could add another £60. Ballpark £340.

Another odd thing to add:

Motorhome insurance premiums mostly operate on a flat rate without applying no claims discount (or "bonus") so you keep your NCB for your car insurance and don't transfer it to the motorhome. Motorhome insurance also is relatively cheap for such high value vehicles.

Add in storage costs of around £350-£400 unless you have room on your drive.
Then servicing & Mot £350-£400.

RFL is £280 on our Euro 6 Ducato (3500kg), soon to drop to around £170 as we're up-plating to 4250kg, you need a C1driving license for anything above 3500kg, depending when you passed your test you may have this.

Thanks to you all, this is really useful information, and I warn you I will be back with more questions soon ;).

Regarding the licence I have a class 1 HGV although I doubt I will be buying anything above 3,500kg but you never know.

We bought under 3500kg but with full tanks, other supplies and a grandson on board with his associated equipment we would be over this. We’ve weighed in on a weigh-bridge at 3500kg without the grandson.

We have a Globecar Campscout PVC (6.36m)
