Just phoned our vets in Dover the price has gone up now to £250, new government price, they did say its worth getting a European passport but they have to have rabies injection yearly instead off three ,[just for information]

Our vet has said £147ish. Fine dog Pip goes in a few days.
Rabies jab was £30. For 3yrs I think. So you can do the math.
Pip has had a Spanish passport in the the past. (Long story) think maybe you shoud look round for cheaper quotes.
Just checked that price with vet.

No, they don’t. 3-yearly rabies vaccines are available in lots of European countries.

Having used the same vets in France for 7 years, prior to returning to the UK. The French rules state that the rabies shot although the same type as the UK is only valid in France for three years. So if you get a French pet passport the rabies shot has to done every year.

My vets have quoted £125 which was okay but they want that per dog! I believe that up to 5 can be on one AHC so would have expected there to be a reduced price for additional dogs. I currently have 4 but 3 that would travel with us so expensive. I would be interested in where in Europe they do rabies booster every 3 years as I was of the belief France and Spain were yearly.

Have my 2 booked in with a vet in Belgium next month before we return home and she seems to think their rabies vaccination will be ok when she gives them passports.
Only had their jabs last month so didnt want another so soon..

My understanding is that the dogs current Rabies vaccinations information can be added to a European passport and is legal but apparently some people have had problems at docks with authorities saying they are not. Bit of a minefield!

No, it does not. There are 3-yearly rabies vaccines available in France - my dog has had one!

You’re being lied to, we have a French passport for our dog. We got it on 14th September. €145 and she received a three year rabies vaccination. It took all of 30 minutes start to finish and walking out with a shiny new passport.
Some vets do seem to be making it up as they go along.

I only got a one year rabies jab for our dog, but this was due to the vet saying that first rabies jab is one year then 3 year after the first one. This didn’t really make sense to us, as it was not the dogs first rabies jab, only his first in the new EU passport. We chose not to argue because all we wanted was the EU passport, and will just be a reason for another trip to France, for a three year one next year. At least they are cheap there.

There is no such thing as a "government price". Prices are set by individual practices or practice groups.

Just phoned my vets, and despite my dog only having his last 3 year jab last December, they want £200 for an AHC !!!

When he had his jab makes no difference. They just want £200 for 40mins to an hours work.

I know... No treatment, just check their records (they gave my dog his previous jabs and passport) and fill the form in...
I was so teed off, I emailed my MP, something that I have never done before

Just get done ASAP whilst you can. It’s only going to get harder and more complicated. We did it as soon as we could, (having had late vaccines due to age) so AHC was £60, and new EU passport €11.
