Nice pics Dave. I like the brick building one, that would make a great B&W study

This is the type of picture I like to play with for hours on long winter nights. I've just had a five minute play.

Here is your original, which I assume is straight from your camera.

Here it is after I tweaked the levels and sharpened it

And this would be the starting point for a black and white study

Nice:thumb:

They were for the firing of the bricks.
"Remains of an old brickworks on the coast of Anglesey visited last weekend. It was operated from 1850 to 1914, and there are three beehive kilns remaining. The clay was brought from the hilltop by aerial tramway, from a nearby quarry, and the finished bricks left by boat."

Indeed Jim, these were just quick snaps taken with my mobile (Samsung Galaxy II), I did take some more on the Canon, will look at them later. B & W should be interesting.

I may go back later on to pick some blackerries, WALL to WALL..

Sort of John, I took loads of pics in RAW format and they are huge, sometimes I get it wrong and sometimes they look better in Black and White.

I dont think of it as pure photography, otherwise some / al of my pics would be boring. I admit I may crop, change some settings and do some HDR, but I do it so that its pleaseing to the eye.

This was one I changed to B & W

Born here...

This is a place I have not been to in over 45 years and its so dangerous to get down to...

Yes its a great place, but its just too close to home... I hope that makes some sense..

the pressure vessels as you call them, are in fact the boilers as most if not all of the equipment was powered by steam:thumb:
all the bricks were hand made in them days and loaded into the kilns by hand, a worker was expected to make up to 2000 bricks per day,the kilns and the boilers were fired with coal all fed by hand with a shovel and a strong back:Eeek:
i worked in a brickworks but only as contractor rebuilding the kilns:thumb:

Great pics.
Lovely place.:thumb:

Indeed, but its changing, too many wind turbines, and another Nuclear power station on the way. Not enough work and one of the poorest parts of the UK.

At £396, the median weekly pay for full-time workers in Isle of Anglesey is around £19 less than the Welsh median.
The median house price in 2006 was around £148,000. This was £15,500 more than the Welsh media.

The Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation 2005 ranks specific small areas in Wales in terms of deprivation: 2% of Isle of Anglesey’s areas fall in the 10% most deprived areas in Wales, but the majority of its areas are more deprived than the Wales average.

No A & E Hospital on the Island. Urgent cases taken to Liverpool Manchester or Crewe.
No Cinema within 30 miles,
No mainline railway station (Holyhead not on Anglesey)

Yes it has its good points, but its in desperate need of help. The short summer tourist season is not enough.

brick works

When we moved to Anglesey about 9yrs ago this brickworks came up for sale, included was a large farm house and detached cottage, both needing renovation, the brickworks, a small island which I think is called Middle Mouse and about 40 acres of head land/scrub land price if I remember correctly £500k.
It was sold within days and shortly after reappeared on the market with more land for £800k looked as if one of the neighbours was the original buyer.
Beautiful place though at anytime of year the Anglesey coastal path must be one of the most interesting and diverse coastal walks in the UK.
