Would you consider it for the right price?.

I have found a car, ultra low mileage. But I am worried about buying something that has been sat (Garaged for so long).

I bought an 8,000 mile motorhome once, only 3 years old but a lot of trouble with just one thing. A known issue, the gearbox.

Any suggestions welcome!

Depending on circumstances of the low mileage and general condition then I would consider, check everything over mechanically, for the right price yes,

Depends how many of those 18 years it's been stood......
Most of them.. . Then a Full brake overhaul Inc fluid change, fan and cam belt, if belt driven, and possible water pump for starters plus a set of tyres for certain.
You could drive it straight away but things will fail in short time.

If it is a diesel then you may be paying more in road tax than the vehicle is worth.

Expensive German cars tend not to be cheap to service/maintain unless you can do it yourself.

18yo electronics may not be repairable.

I bought a 12 yr old Vauxhall viva HC with under 16k on it
I ran it for 8 yrs and sold it with 120k on it
The only thing to fail in the early days of owning it was the radiator hoses perished internally.
Price makes a big difference of course

Many years
Remember that all rubber parts, hoses etc will be 18 years old. Rubber degrades through contact with air, whether the car is run or standing.

Iron parts (engine and bodywork) will be subject to corrosion.

Normally parts suppliers to the assembler only have to guarantee continued supply for "end of production plus 10 years". So parts/spares may be an issue.

I bought a very low mileage Ford Anglia in my youth, the old boy who had owned it from new only drove it to the shop and to visit his son who only lived a couple of miles away. I'm not sure he'd ever put the choke in, exhaust was solid with soot and the camshaft went soft after a while and had to be replaced.

So it's around year 2000 model, perfect time to buy as prices have bottomed, with a few even beginning to appreciate...
There's always a strong market for old German cars, I'd go for it (y)

Getting better
All depends on the model of BMW, the engine and its transmission. Generally Beemers from that era are well built.
Watch out for body corrosion and condition of interior.
Allow for new tyres, all new fluids and a brake overhaul.

Its not old enough , you could well get electrical problems as its new enough . Older are less tech so easier to sort when stuff goes wrong . The other thing to be careful of is its odd stuff thats NLS that catches you out .

Is an D**** X5, So Pre X-drive and Built in US.

I was looking at LPG 2004/2005 pre RFL/TAX hike. I think most LPG Conversions have the tank where the spare wheel is. Problem with that is the battery is underneath. Changing battery involves removing tank.

That's got to be a unique Anglia then, as they had rockers rods and tappets, not a camshaft.

Don't the camshaft lift the cam followers that lift the push rods that move the rockers that open the valve's.

Someone Janie worked for had this old metro for sale, I said we will have that for our daughters to learn to drive in, it was about 14 years old and he didn't buy it until he was 70
It was only when we was cleaning it out, and all the fluff was coming of the carpets, I think it was it's first vacuum. That it wasn't 116000 miles  it was 11600 miles lovely little car. (y)
But the pair of them wrecked it.  Bob.
