I have 2016 Mohawk with a USB socket below the Sargent unit. It works ok on phones, dongle etc but I have a new small unit with a C connector which it says not to charge above 1.5 amps. Anyone any idea of the amperage???

The way most devices work they demand the current they want.
The supply will either be able to achieve that demand or not.

So, for example, at home you can plug a kettle into the same mains socket that your mp3 charger could use.

I don’t know of a USB scenario where you can’t plug a USB-C device into a USB 2 or USB3 socket.
Might need some more details from you to assist a specific scenario.

We have a similar plug with a 1A and 2A socket.

I have always understood that the device takes what it needs and there cannot be too much amperage............it's voltage that is the problem.

I would understand if it said charge with at least 1.5 A.

So interested to get more expert advice

I found this Q&A: Can you blow up a USB device sticking it into a high amperage capable socket? No.

I have installed a twin USB socketed adapter 12v - 5v which are rated at Up to 3 amps so our phone go into rapid charge mode when plugged in

Oh yes the adaptor cost just over £2 from Fleabay

Was going to change the sockets in my van to C3 which are 3 amps, then I got a new phone, for fast charge it needs 6 amps.

I recently fitted a double USB socket in the rear hab area.
I've already used it a few times to charge my phone up which has a USB-C with perfect results.

There seem to be more problems in using high speed charging on a lower amp USB socket, nothing dangerous just ultra slow charging rates.

What exactly is this new small unit? I don't think you can control how much amps a USB device takes. If it depends on never plugging into a socket greater than 1.5 amps it doesn't sound fit for purpose to me.
