I have an American Motorhome due for delivery to me early March.

It is fitted with a TV, DVD, Music Centre etc, all American.

Will the TV work in the UK?.:

Err I don't think so.

The TV Will be NTSC Standard. 120v 60 Hz.It's the frequency and the power requirement that will cause the problem in any power conversion.May be possible to Freeview via SCART .Might have sync problems (60hz tv- 50hz freeview.)

Best to buy a nice tft widescreen and dvd player.Far less hassle.

DVD will probably be Regionalised (Region 1) to US standard. We are Region 2.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

I am led to believe that DVD players that work on both systems are available here, it's what some USAF guys do to use their US tvs here, I am told that this is cheaper than an adapter.

 You can buy NTSC to PAL converters. But the frequency of the AC voltage sometimes causes a problem with the picture scrolling for normal Terrestrial TV. I used (still have them) NTSC Screens when doing Karoke. I used a SCART/Phono connection from the PAL players to the TV's. :winky:

It was only after I'd spent months trying to find a tv to replace my american one that I gave up and fitted a flat screen. Barely a month later I read a post from Scotjimland (i think) about how he connected his american tv to a digibox.
On my RV both the generator and onboard inverter work at 110v 60 cycles so the old tv would have been fine:Doh:
I probably could have left the tv so it only ran from the inverter:Doh::Doh:
Just connect up the sky digibox via a scart lead.:Doh::Doh:
Mind you finding a 30 foot long scart lead to reach the tv in the bedroom would have been a challenge:ROFLMAO:

Hello Madblue, I'd suggest you wait until you see what you've got in the RV. Both the TV and DVD player in ours have a input voltage of 100-240v, 50/60Hz and they also both have the selectable standard of PAL/NSTC. Ours are a Coby DVD player and Pentus TV

If you have to change it then you cannot go wrong with the TV/Freeview/DVD player a suggested on Facts forum by peejay for your bedroom:

If you look further on the site you will also find:

For the living room.

Both seem well priced and worth a punt if necessary.

Hi Linda,

Not sure but a couple of people on the Facts Forum mention buying recently so if it is, they sorted themselves out.

We will probably be buying both very soon so if we do I will keep you informed.

Chris

Mick

Wait until you see what youve got was the operative phrase.

The DVD,VCR and reciever had been stolen during shipping. The telly is a bit old fashioned and so all in all its an electrical converstion (addition of 240V) and new kit.
