so thats the question .over the last few weeks out walking the dog i have noticed a motorhome [newish] parked at various places overnight not causing any problems .no litter etc etc .so me being me struck a conversation up with the occupant [retired male] it turns out that he lives fulltime in his motorhome and is staying over at various places in the district .as there is no where to stay ie a proper site .so i said he could stay at my works depo in a corner of the yard with electric water access to a toilet/sewer .FOC so i now have a on site security man for a very small amount .over christmas .am i soft /silly /shrewd ?

I would say it's a good idea provided you find out a bit more about him, you might end up with him for ever, what will the council think about it, and it could work out more than a very small amount of he abandons all his gas heating and cooking and does it all on your electric.

:winky:Remember the old adage, "no good deed goes unpunished" Hopefully, your kindly appreciative old gent, is a gent and you won't end up like that scenario they made a film about, was it lady in a van or something?
Seasonal tidings, and all.

While your fears are possible for the moment lets hope the guy just appreciates the gesture.

he would need to use a lot of electric to offset the cost of hiring a security guard over christmas .its agreed its a winter only agreement .he is also on cctv he knows this .he only parks up at night. daytime he goes out in the van .if he did refuse to move we have a 500BHP 8x4 tow truck .which would probably help in reasonable talks to help him move .a very last case option i hasten to add

I have said on here before, what goes around comes around. A homeless guy turned up on one of our building sites looking for any labouring work. My old man took him on and let him stay overnight on the site in the warm and dry. Every morning we would turn up, the kettle was on for a brew and the site tidy and clean. When the job came to a close we offered the guy a job full time. He politely declined and quietly moved on, with a good few quid in his pocket. Everyone happy and we had no thefts or vandalism on that site, with a "night watchman"

Ok I take my post back if that's what you all think, only suggesting some of the pitfalls there could be before knowing all the facts.

I think you are lovely. I only hope I meet someone so nice should I ever need help in the future. Not much chance these days... you are one of the rare ones and will hopefully reap rewards in some way through your life.

Lets just hope that he doesn't injure himself in his role as a night watchman, or worse, get beaten up in the role and you get into trouble from H&SE for not providing adequate training, method statement, emergency security protocols, safe room, panic facility, back up response procedural handbook and explained the risks involved!

Just a by the by to this, where's he going to go all day.

Whatever it is that he has been doing and it doesn't matter does really does it :giggle:

I think the op has made a kind & generous offer (I am pleased that h&s stuff is covered though). It's heartwarming to know there are still people out there prepared to offer a helping hand.

Bugger, I was thinking of doing a dawn rid on your yard and nicking all the mince pies.

I will have to go somewhere else now

the man in the van is often seen walking round local area so called beauty spots .or parked up reading i also hear from various sources that when he is parked up he collects litter and places it in bins .as he has done at our depo without being asked .

The guy in the MH might be an undercover billionaire looking to lavish gifts on people who help him out.
Nah, they're all in Nigeria.
