Well travelled
I'm sat here in our lovely Hymer B544, (2012) with all mod cons.
I'm in Turin after travelling from the Highlands down through Holland, France Germany, Austria to Rome and slowly wending our way back home, have another 3 weeks yet.
Theres a local chap building his own moho out of a beat up transit box van, he's putting insulation in it, not much else so far. It looks like he's going to live in it as he doesn't look too well off. The van is a bit, well very rough looking, held together with some aluminium strips and some home made windows only a rear door.
And I envy him in a way, he doesn't look to have much, and doesn't look like he has care in the world either. But he looks happy enough.
Nearest I get is to bugger off in the Highlands wild camping for the weekend with dog and wife.
I must be crackers....

No you are not... you just have a nice streak which is showing.

I've met some lovely people who have nothing, ask nothing of anyone and who appreciate the world around them.

Motorhoming is a mental thing (not daft) which we can all try to enjoy regardless of money.
At one time I remember buying a second hand carpet van, stuck in a porta-poti and a mattress. Had a brilliant time.

Same here Rosalan, first van was just an old Merc sprinter 410 van which I already owned, couple of mattress in the back , porta-poti and that was it. Later fitted a fridge and gradually fitted other stuff.
Eventually sold it on and bought an old A class Hymer but had as much fun in the first van , just not quite as comfortable.
Since then I've always had old Hymers and not lost money on any of them.

Don't you just envy them though , afraid I do, never got to do anything like gap years or anything like that when I was young, too busy just making enough to make ends meet, and the old vans we used to go away in was because it was all we had.
Seen quite a few young singles and couples in fridge vans, converted horse boxes and the like, nothing fancy but they looked as happy as Larry, and why not, yes envy all the living they have in front of them and already done so much.

We too have seen youngsters all over Europe and Morocco just enjoying themselves in all sorts of contraptions, from a huge converted horsebox to a tiny three-wheeler converted from a Moroccan delivery, well, truck. And without exception all were very happy.

Ah, to be young again.............................
