got to Bilbao yesterday, joined the queue, almost got to the booth only to be redirected to another queue when they spotted the dog, got in that queue, when we got to the booth, handed over the passports, then told ‘their is a problem’,
I was shown the pet passport, and very condescendingly told me there is a problem, I couldn’t see anything wrong, ‘look at the date’ , still couldn’t see anything wrong, ‘look at the year’, vet had dated the passport 2019 for the tablet the day before.
Wouldnt let us on.
So they said there is a 24hr vet in the city, plenty of time.
Headed off into Bilbao, narrow streets, stop start traffic, finally arrived at the 24 hr vets, guess what, it was closed.
Banging on the door they opened, my wife explained and they sorted it. meanwhile I’m parked outside using the magic button on the dash that allows you to park a motorhome anywhere you like.
Dash back through narrow streets onto the motorway to find standing traffic, no movement for 10 agonising minutes, them it just moved on.
We got on the ferry just in time amongst the last few vehicles.
Vets who misdated the passport charged €32, second vet €40 just to redo the passport, no tablet.
Come home to thermostat in house reading 42.5 c, so no heating. A bit chilly after Spain.

42.5 C?

That’s hotter than Kirsty Gallagher :xeek:

Sorry about the vet issues.

We always check - ever since our own vet made a major error on our dog's passport. Luckily we spotted it, otherwise we could have had a 170 mile journey to Portsmouth for nothing. :(

You got away cheaper than we did.

Went to vet in Brugge last new year, pre booked which is a first for us, but strange time of year so thought it best.

Vet did all as required, but when filling in the passport just copied the above details/date and then charged 45-50 euros. Paid cash and left. Problem found at eurotunel next day. Off to emergency vet 90 euros just to alter details in passport.

The entire animal passport is a waste of time, and a great money earner for some.

Pleased you got it sorted, but it sounds like “bureaucracy gone mad”. If passport control couldn’t accept that the date was actually this year, how could the vet accept it? It seems to me that if they couldn’t accept the simple error, then strictly another worming tablet should have been given, but of course that would mean you would have had to wait 24 hours.

We now ALWAYS pay by card and then get card receipt. That way it has an accurate date and time on it. Passport control informed us that that would have confirmed that it was just an admin issue.

Maybe that will help others.

Tried showing the till receipt with correct date, no good.

All down to the individual checking the passport I suppose

Years ago my vet made a mistake when dating one dog's booster in the passport ( in the UK). That warned me to check all the passports for every date and time.
Knew a woman once who flew Cyprus to the UK with her cat and at Heathrow an error was spotted in the pet passport. Vet had put the wrong time and the cat was refused entry. She was in a panic as someone mentioned it might be 6 months quarantine. Phone calls, faxes and several hours later the cat was released to her.
Glad you got the ferry but nerve wracking.

Might work but at 11 euros I don’t think our local Vet would accept a card.

Wait until after April 2019!:xeek:

Think I’d have just altered the date myself!:xeek:

You are not alone !
German vet this year filled in Dillons passport.. and forgot to stamp it !!Same sort of scenario ensued at the Chunnel

Took our dog into the tunnel pet

I am surprised that if the vet redated it that you did not have to wait another 24 hours before checking in again, unless of course he just changed the original one.
When this happened to us at the tunnel pet place we just went to the ferry instead and they accepted it, cost us around £120 for the ferry though.

I said to the girl at the ferry booth, can I just change it, no she said must be done by a vet, who filled in another complete line, as though another dose was administered.
Had we not got back to the ferry in time we would have had to drive up through France.
