We are crossing to Calais on the chunnel and hoping to head towards Strasbourg and visi the Alsace Lorraine area. We are taking our cocker spaniel for the first time and love walking, countryside, lakes and rivers and small old towns and villages (not so interested in large cities) - does anyone have any recommendations for places to visit or good sites? Thank you!

I have said this before, but Alsace is a really beautiful area. Take a look at Colmar, Ribeauville, Berghiem, and nearby is Kayserberg with a really good aire on the edge of town costing around 6€. Alsace has a more German feel to it than French, probably because it used to be in Germany once upon a time. Plenty of places to stay, ACSI, France passion stops, and aires as well.

you really have to visit Eguisheim, brilliant campsite ,5 min walk into town. picture postcard town.
makes York look modern in comparison.
