I’m taking the Motorhome to Alpe D’Huez in July to undertake a cycle ride up the mountain. Can anyone recommend a camp site (rather than an aide) at the foot of Alpe D’Huez and any information you may have about the area. It’s going to be the secon climb of the week following a ride up Mt Ventoux.

The tour is there on14th July, everything near the route will be chockered for about 10 days before and takes a day or so to clear after, no recommendations though.
Good luck.

Presuming you are not going when Le Tour is going then (and i know this isnt what you asked for) I would stop at the top in the aire at Alpe D'Huez and stroll down for the climb.
Similarly with Ventoux, consideration to stopping overnight at the top, an unbelievably good stop in order to watch sunset and sunrise.
Worthy of clicking the link before decision making

There's a campsite not far, be warned, it will be busy upto 2 weeks before around and up Alpe D'heuz if there is a stage from the Tour de France going through.

If you cannot get a campsite I know of a perfect spot to stop for a few days it is about 1km along the plain from Le Bourg D’Oisans with a lovely mountain pond and picnic area there, so if all else fails you will be able to park there if you need any details just let me know

Camping RCN Belledonne a couple of miles from foot of the Alp. Just behind the site you have a flat warm up ride following river away from the busy main road which brings you out very close to the foot of the Alp. Super campsite run by Dutch couple.Enjoy your ride up but take it easy on the first few ramps……
