As some of you may already know Allan was 65 in April and we planned to have a 4 week trip starting with the Kelso meet. He's been working part time and as it is quiet we decided to leave early so left this afternoon. So prepped the RV, bought a bit of food, plenty of alcohol and some clothes and set off with no fixed plan other than to head East. Found a couple of wild camping places in Yorkshire moors and Nidderdale but first one inaccessible for us, 2nd road closed so headed out of Ilkley, following our trusty sat nav for large vehicles to be met with a 11'9" bridge on a narrow road, we're 12'3"! Managed to stop the traffic and turn round and laughing with one of the locals who said a bus tried last week and got stuck ... luckily we have more sense! Drove on and have found a lovely quiet spot in Ottley near the river so we had an early evening walk with the dogs, just eaten flatbreads, avocado, mushrooms, onions and chilli halloumi all washed down with a glass of Merlot. Think a bit more planning for tomorrow's stop would be a good idea! And the weather is beautiful but very windy. Just seen the name of the park we're next to ..... Tittybottle Park.

We were in the lakes at John Ruskin school. A lovely weekend. Next time you see us come and say hi as it's easier for people to spot us until we know you.

Last nights wild camp spot was lovely and peaceful so had a great nights sleep. Today started a bit grey and drizzly in Ottley but the forecast was to improve so we set off towards Filey. On the way we saw signs for Mother Shipton's Cave and petrifying well and being curious followed the signs. What a fabulous find! We parked in the car park by the river as their car park wasn't motorhome friendly and walked over the bridge. In a nutshell it dates back to 1630 and she was a famous prophetess feared by Henry Viii. The welll is amazing and strung with objects that take around 3 months to turn to stone by the calcified water. Lots of famous people have visited and left things which are in the museum. If you find yourself near Knaresborough you should go. We then drove to Scarborough as Allan used to holiday their with his parents as a young boy so bit of a nostalgia trip. Now parked up on the moors overlooking Robin Hood's Bay on another wild camp. Weather turned out lovely again. G&T time I think :beerchug:

September will soon be here. It's so much fun having no plans and so relaxing knowing we're not home for 5 weeks. It helps that the weather has been good but we were prepared in case it rained.

Well what can I say, another great day. Sun had shone all day and is still lovely we decided to have a lazy, pj day today so stayed at the same spot we waited for the others to move and repositioned for the great view over robin hoods bay. We're about 1.5 miles from the bay all downhill so after much discussion we walked with the dogs this afternoon. Had a lovely walk along the beach and finished in the pub overlooking the bay. Thought we'd have a quick drink then catch the bus back up the hill. 3 hours later and 4 large red wines, the buses had stopped running so we had the 1:4 climb to the RV and my earlier prepared chillI! I can't tell you how recked we were but what fun we had with a lovely couple we met in the pub who had walked from Whitby. They gave us the royal wave from their taxi on the way back to their vw t5. So chilli eaten and coffee made just settling in for another lovely night overlooking the bay. Not bad this retirement stuff, I could get used to this. Don't worry helen @Puddleduck & sandra@irnbru were bringing this weather with us to Kelso and all the Scottish rallies

Yep we are watching you. Though please promise not to walk so far. Your feet already go in the wrong direction after a few steps let alone a hike back from pub

Moved on yesterday to Dunstan and stopped at an amazing brit stop no. 786. A beautiful country pub within 10 mins walk to Craster. The parking is on a wooded carpark at the back with loafs of space and really peaceful. I even got my yoga mat out this morning for some lovely stretches before breakdast. Yesterday we Took the dogs with us to play on the small beach harbour, watched the fishing boats unload in the sunshine, bought some smokies and smoked salmon pate from the smokehouse and chilled with an ice cream before walking back. Had a couple of drinks in the beer garden before dinner in the pub. Fabulous food and good prices, great selection of veggie stuff too - my beetroot and goats cheese burger was too die for! It's warm but a bit cloudy this morning and we're on our way to Berwick upon Tweed to find somewhere to stop tonight.

I think we saw you at the Cottage inn at Dunstan. We were just leaving having had a fine lunch. Sorry I'm not good at people but I think I recognise the dogs.

Thanks for highlighting some interesting places. I lived in Carlisle until my mid-twenties but we rarely crossed over the Penines to the east coast. Must have been fear of the cold and weird accents. :)

Had anot her good day yesterday and mostly dry and warm. We drove to Berwick upon Tweed and parked overlooking the beach which is free and loads of spaces bur no overnight parking. Took the dogs along the beach for a good run then up to Aldi for supplies. Allan stayed in the bus as the car park was too small and when I came out it was hammering with rain so ran along the road to the bus pushing the trolley to unload! Drove on to the A1 and saw signposts for Oxford farm shop so pulled in and bought some lovely biscuits and had a cream tea nice place and very popular. Easy to find as got the brown road signs. Left there and took the B road to Kelso where we found another great spot to overnight alongside farm fields so sat watching the owls hunt at dusk. Just getting breakfast and looking forward to seeing everyone in Kelso later.
