Hi all, off to Spain next week, would really like to visit Alhambra. Anyone any suggestions for parking, stop overs, guided tours etc?

When we visited The Alhambra pre-Covid in Feb '20, we parked our motorhome overnight in Car Park P-4, which is very close to the Visitor Entrance (up the hill). Ok, it is quite pricey for a car park with no facilities (€30 for 24hrs I think), but we'd not hesitate to return, it is so convenient. Book well in advance for your Alhambra tickets to make sure you can visit on your chosen day. It is an amazing place, we've been back many times and always find something we'd not previously noticed!

Thanks that’s helpful, moths might be flying out of mr mousy‘s pocket for this trip! A place I’ve always wanted to go to though. I’ll check out tickets now, probably end of feb or March.

Plenty of parking at the Alhambra, can't help with the MH stops as we were in a car! Tickets are available here

Early in the day is always better, you may look and find there aren't any tickets available for the day you want as the tour firms block book tickets then nearer the time let them know exactly how many are going so tickets do get released👍

We stopped at the Aire on the outskirts of the city. Caught the train in very cheap. When we left the parking machine had broken qt the Aire three days buckshee!! With leccy !!

We stayed at Camping Reina Isbel at La Zubia, bus stop outside. Campsite got us tickets for the next day.
Found Alhambra rather underwhelming, far better places to visit in Spain.

Agreed, as we expected something like the Taj Mahal! A nice day out though.

We went at the end of Feb 2020 just before the world went mad. Hired a car as the van was down near Malaga and the son was with us so 3 don't fit on the motorbike. But having seen the Moho parking when we got there we should have gone in the van the night before, expensive yes but right on site. When we go back at some point we will defo do an overnight stop in this car park for an early start the next day. The place is HUGE, the palace is impressive but so are are the gardens and all the rest of the stuff, it is a small town / village and not just a palace. Easy do a day there looking at everything you can. We booked a few days before, as previously posted they release a load of tickets to get on a short ish lead time. It is a stunning place to visit IMHO.

Ohh not what I was expecting to hear, tell me more Lenny, we’ve got 8 weeks to hopefully enjoy some sunshine, chilling and exploring. Where do you recommend?

Have a look at my travel threads in my signature. In reality we have only scraped the surface of Spain.

Dawn, we really enjoyed The Valley of The Fallen. Not your usual fun day out, but a really interesting place.

Typical Fascist architecture, and a strangely foreboding Basilica.

You know me, I went in search of relics, but Franco had been dug up and moved 6 months before we got there.

It was at the start of Covid, when all of Spain was about to close, so we drove the van right up to the Mausoleum and made the most of photo opportunities!

You may not want your thoughts provoked, but we enjoyed it!

I won’t be searching for MOTG outfits, so we can go off for coffee and cakes when you get here. Can’t wait to catch up xx

Make sure you buy your tickets in advance as they sell out very quickly and blocks are only usually released every two weeks. Also buy from the official site https://tickets.alhambra-patronato.es/ as the resellers and agencies charge a huge premium. Make sure you allow enough time to get from the entrance to the Palace as the entry slots are allocated a time and it is strictly enforced. Finally if you don't book a guided tour it's well worth renting an audio guide headset - usually the booth is just to the left as you enter.

We also stayed at Camping Reina Isbel at La Zubia in April 2019. I emailed the campsite before we left UK and they sorted tickets for Alhambra the cost was the normal face value. They emailed me the tickets. Caught the bus from just outside the campsite. We enjoyed the gardens.

Likewise stopped at Camping Reina and did not bother with the Alhambra due to poor reviews on here but did take the hop on hop off train around Granada with commentary in english on the history of Granada and great views of the city, we thought it was good value, oh, and beware of pickpockets.
Sorry forgot to say Happy birthday :birthday:

I went about 25 years ago with my first wife. We weren’t in a motorhome but the advice then ( it was June) was get there early before it gets too busy and too hot.

Amazing place, sorry I can’t help with the camping.

I was fairly impressed by water flowing uphill, along the handrails of a staircase and also the various fountains here there and everywhere, considering when it was built!

Loved it.

Also enjoyed the lunch we had in the Parador next door. Large G&T to begin with, followed by our choice which was Entremeses variados with 35 different items, only one of which I didn't actually enjoy eating.

Go - and form your own conclusion - but definitely invest in the guide commentary.

We loved the Alhambra, the best preserved Moorish fortress we've seen, visited about 5 years ago and, bought the tickets only a couple of days before at a bank atm, seemed really easy.

Camping zubia was everything I hate about campsites ( we were being lazy really) it was too far out of town to walk, no views at all and the pitches were so narrow the only way I could plug in and be able to open the door was to grope the cable through the high hedge.

We visited Alhambra yesterday as it happens, probably the time of year but very quiet and at least 100 tickets available in every time slot throughout the day.
Have spent 5 nights at Camping Las Lomas about 10km east of Granada at £16.55 a night. Good reliable bus service into Granada at €1.55 each way

Most definitely a must-see. The beautiful Islamic architecture and decoration is an absolute wonder, but in my opinion rather spoilt by the 16th century addition of the square Charles V palace which whilst impressive in its form, seems so out of place there.)

(I have always been fascinated to compare what Islam and Christianity were capable of contemporarily.)

I first visited the Alhambra when I was 5 and have photographs of my brother and I mounted on the famous lions.
(Although quite a badge of honour, I am glad that this is now strictly forbidden.)

Alhambra................we thought it was a beautiful place, take your time to suck up the atmosphere and explore all parts of this magical fortress. We had the last booking time slot of the day which coincided with a deep red sunset lighting up the walls of Alhambra, what a spectacle.

We loved the Alhambra! We also used the campsite at Camping Reina Isabel in La Zubia and the bus from outside the campsite. From our pitch we had a view over Granada which was very pretty at night. The above advice on buying tickets in advance is good and to that I would add a small warning. We weren’t advised that part of the Alhambra is time limited, by that I mean you have to visit it within a given time from the issue of your ticket. Its not a problem …..you just visit that bit first. But we weren’t told and had missed our allotted time by 10 minutes and no amount of pleading would persuade them to let us in. Whilst your in Granada don’t miss out on walking through the old Arab quarter under its walls which is very pleasant. One thing I remember about our visit (in January) is that the day before we had been enjoying a spectacular walk in the mountains just above La Zubia wearing shorts and T shirts. The following morning we were better attired than that, but the weather had changed and we had underestimated how chilly the Alhambra would be. We had bought early tickets to beat the crowds and we were freezing until the sun actually reached us late morning. Once the sun was out it was glorious. Hope you enjoy your visit.

We visited it last year on the first day that Andalusia opened to travel between the provinces and so there were very few other visitors.!
I thought the place was simply extraordinary! Beautiful, the 'coolest' place I have yet visited. By far, for me, the best site I've visited in Spain ( though yet to visit the Escorial!) or elsewhere for that matter!

love the Alhabra - and its gardens - the Generaliffe. Have been twice and will go again in April or May. Cannot understand why people are underwhelmed. It's magnificent, the artistry is amazing. I was totally overwhelmed both times.

I appreciate that everyone's likes and dislikes are different, but we really love the Alhambra and as per my earlier post, we've returned many times. We love the gardens, the buildings, the atmosphere and the stunning position. It can easily take a day to visit the Palace and the Generalife gardens with stunning fountains.

Staying up in the Car Park allows you to visit wonderful Granada in the evening - a lovely walk down the hill to some amazing restaurants and bars serving tapas. Also really worth a visit is to the Albaicin area of Granada - the whitewashed village on the hillside opposite the Alhambra, so you get a wonderful view back across to the Alhambra. After our evening out, we either walk back up the hill or you can catch the little bus or a taxi back up the hill.

As for Carpark P4, when we were there in Feb '20 , there were just three or four other motorhomes and the odd coach turned up. But it's a really big car park with easy access via the barrier. When you are ready to leave, just put your car park entry ticket into the machine and pay using credit card. We stayed for 3 nights, and can't wait to do the same again soon.

On our next visit, I think we'll tie Granada into (re)visits to Seville, Cadiz and Jerez, all of which we love and have aires with easy access to the town/city centres.

We did too, stayed at La Reina really enjoyed the Alhambra, but should have given ourselves more time there.

We are looking to visit the Alhambra and Granada in either April or May depending on how the trip goes. So thanks to eveyone for their advice and thoughts.

Was it a cloudy day or suffering a hangover? I was blown away by the Alhambra but the weather can make a place i find.
