Great - how was your experience of the pint of milk you bought 3 weeks ago. Bong - I notice you haven't told me how your experience of the pint of milk was - would you like me to order another pint of milk.

Crash - as the radio gets chucked out of the cab window..

Already have one in my van, wouldn't be without it. Listen to what you want, when you want it. Answer and make phone calls without any need to touch a button or take your eyes away from driving, no matter how briefly.

No for me it won’t. None of that lazy (not) smart stuff anywhere near me.
I was watching an ad for a car on tv yesterday, it had that "auto reverse parking" feature that they were showcasing, with that and the thread the other day about teaching you to drive by braking instead of being in the correct gear for the speed you're travelling at, you have to wonder if future generations will ever be able to think for themselves ?
I'm not a Luddite by any means, but it seems there's a push for developing technology that deprives you of actually having to exercise your thought process ?

I would love it.. As long as they ( Whoever THEY are ) pays for the data ......

Hi big 1 how does that work might have a look to see if it suits me.

From 2024, according to this press release of a collaboration between Amazon and Stellantis

Sigh, Alexa and Amazon can just do one, hopefully it can be disabled.

Blinking heck you mean we have had to wait for Amazon to invent what has already been invented !

Actually reading the article and not just panicking about privacy, having a car linked to your home automation sounds great.
Simple things like location services knowing you’re 20min/20km away from home so the central heating can turn on sound like a good thing.

What’s so bad about apple/Google/Amazon knowing a bit about you?
At least with their ad tailoring you don’t get ads for children’s toys or fishing gear 🤪 It’ll be something related to your likes. 🤔🤪

I like tech but not if it uses me (advertising) or uses my data, or does things because it thinks for me., then no. I use tech to do things i want it to do and where i make the decisions.

Alexa kept interrupting a recent Jive dance class we attended.

"I'm sorry, I didn't understand that" came loudly over the PA while the teacher was trying to explain the next move to us dancers. We laughed the first time. This kept happening, despite the teacher telling Alexa to shut up and turn off. Alexa had been on, so the teacher could tell Alexa which dance track to play next. When AI gets really annoying ...

Anyhow, it's something I would disable in the MH cab. Permanently. With a hammer, if necessary.

Similar to TheBig1 , we have an echo dot in the van linked to the 4g router, mainly used as a radio when static, great for listening to what we want, but also provides a live link to the home Ring security system and Hive heating.

Cheers
Red.

Because you do not need Apple/google or Amazon to do these things you can set up home automation without using these American conglomerates.

My 'smart' TV is powered by Android, if I switched the 'Smart' features on all it is doing is pushing Netflix Amazon etc to me all the time so its all disabled and I use a media server to control what I want to watch without being constantly influenced by content pushers.

Correct gear is all well and good but most new cars are autos and drifting towards gearless electric. Can’t see my kids (7&4) ever driving a manual.

Well, yes, you don’t need a voice assistant but them linking to your home automation is only a part of the feature set.
Even for home automation, a VA simplifies that by bringing different systems together in one place.
Like, I’ve smart plugs from 3 makes, a Harmony Hub, and a Sonos audio system.
I could use all their separate apps to control them or ask the VA 👍🏻😃

I can imagine the revenue stream Amazon would get from selling the recoded cab microphone data ti insurance companies. The insurance company could then determine how good a drivers you are and therefore premium the risk, based on the number of expletives the driver uses or the comments about the other drivers ... or how many rows and distractions take place in the cab or ..... The wonders of technology eh.
Alexa, Cortana, Siri, etc who needs them. I just rely on Tinkerbelle sitting next to me in the passenger seat.

Why do you need to heat the Hive ?????:giggle:

When mine is in for a service the garage's loan car is always a manual gearbox cheap piece of rubbish. Despite specifically requesting an auto when I book a service I get told: "we don't have one as a loan car". Every FIAT garage I have used in the past is the same.

That’s why I drive a Mercedes 😂

One day in the not too distant future, a recording of your expletives and comments could result in automatic demerit points on your social credit score. The cops won't even need to call at your house to check your thinking. It will be noted anyway on the Police National Computer as a non-crime hate incident, but you won't be informed. Stasi or Gestapo built into your infotainment devices. Keep your mouth shut, or else!

My crystal ball says you will also have a telematics / GPS tracker so that you can be charged by the mile by HMRC. Driving your MH anywhere is going to get even more expensive. When that happens I might have to sell up.

You've been watching those Australian police programmes again haven't you as we don't do 'demerit' points! :giggle:

Home automation?
Cetral heating on a timer , what else do you need?
Need?
Not much but I like saying "Good Morning" to my VA so it's radio starts streaming, the gadget charging sockets turn off and my media server turns on, for example.

Another example is there's a VA routine that powers up the AC unit mains lead, waits, then turns on the AC unit (y)

Then there are voice commands to do the things I'd have to press buttons on the Harmony remote to do otherwise

As it happens, my central heating is not smart but I was out last night with a mate who has made his central heating (inc. radiators) smart and he is able to see how warm rooms are, have been & will be. Interesting but I won't add that to our house - yet :)
