Has anybody found one of these useful? It seems cheap so maybe not accurate? On sale this Thursday 13th. Not sure if it is the type where spikes need to be pushed into the surface.

Looks about the same use as a home blood pressure machine gives you information that you may be able to do nothing about .

How's that then ? Why would you not act on either a worrying blood pressure reading or a high moisture reading ? 🤷‍♂️

It does have pins, the picture shows it with the cap on. (y)

Ok its not a proffessional meter BUT if you go around your van getting average readings of between x and y Then suddlenly find a spot thats ZZZ at least you are aware of a potential problem and can get it checked.

If you are concerned about damp then yes they are a good means of checking. If you want less puncture marks just solder on some needles to the pins to reduce the size of the holes.

Its very simple technology so they all tend to work fine unless they are very very poor. It basically measuring the electrical conductivity between the pins. If you removed the pins it wouldn't work as well and would not be an accurate measurement. It would just be measuring across the surface and not the dampness within the wood
