On 4th van so not a total newbie....
We are due to pick up a new Le voyageur after Christmas, however due to the value insurers seem to be insisting an alarm and tracker is fitted prior to collection, the dealer has given me details of their installer, I have called twice and no answer, so do not want to use as what will the follow up service be like? I wanted to use Vanbitz, but can't even get insurance to drive it down there without an alarm!
Looking at the Sentinel alarm and tracker combo by Phantom ( https://phantom.uk.net/gps-tracking/sentinel ) , who will install at the dealers but can't find our much about it.

Any suggestions for systems/installers who will fit in Southampton area?

Have you tried other insurers? We found that only the 'posh' ones insist on trackers - others are more flexible and some will exclude theft until you've had one fitted - not a problem if you are in it ;)

Try one of the comparison sites saying you've no tracker and see what quotes you get :)

It maybe they are insisting on a tracker being fitted because it's an high end "Posh motorhome" with quite an high
value.:xThumb:

we had the same issue with Safeguard. They would not insure us at all until cat 5 and tracker were fitted. In the end I kicked up a fuss and asked them to go back to their brooker as I wanted them to cover me for 24 hours whilst I took it from the dealer to vanbitz. They then relented and all went to plan but I did not appreciate the hassle particularly as it was going to be amore secure system. You may have an issue booking something in though in the timeframe.

You could try NFU at Chichester for insurance. They did not insist on either for our van (3 axle Carthago) but gave discounts as soon as we had fitted both alarm (Strikeback) and tracker

Nfu , is one of the few I have not tried yet, so will give them a call tomorrow.

Sorry for the lack of clarity, I meant the posh Insurance companies (read expensive) ;) :) (y)

Adrian Flux don’t require a tracker/alarm, or didn’t when we bought our van new a couple of years ago

When I was discussing insuring new Carthago NFU Brockenhurst said NFU would not insist on either an alarm or tracker but said a tracker could attract a 7% discount.

If you insist enough to your chosen Insurance company to have Strikeback/Growler with Shadow VTS, if they are worth their salt they will be accommodating.
We have many a customer been in the same dilemma as yourself and the insurance company have been willing enough to allow the installation of the above products within a certain timeframe.
Someone has already suggest 1 "Z" company, whom will allow a time frame to have these products fitted.

If your van is that valuable, surely you would want a tracker and alarm fitted?
Comfort gave me a weeks grace to have them fitted.

Comfort initially offered a weeks Grace, then phoned back to say they had to have it prior to collection, just spoken to nfu, and they are £350 more than caravan club, but don't need alarm or tracker, so deciding whether cc with cheap alarm and tracker to qualify or go with nfu and get growler done before renewal.

Had Phantom for several years with only one problem when the Alarm couldn’t be set, however the tracker side of the system remained active.
It isn’t the cheapest system, but every time I have triggered the alarm by mistake, whether in UK or Europe, Phantom are ringing to check within 5 mins.

I am confused; we have Growler with Tracker fitted by Vanbitz back in September - is our Tracker the same as Shadow VTS? Hate to think it is out of date already.

Lol, your system isn't out of date. There is a new classification coming in for January 1st 2019 (VTS). Your installation will remain current for as long as you own the vehicle.

Used Safeguarge to import current van, would insure but wouldn't cover theft until alarm fitted so I slept in the van for a few nights until my alarm man came.

Up until they eventually agreed to cover me for 24 hours whilst I took it to Vanbitz from the dealer they would not cover me for anything so not just theft exclusion so an accident would have been an issue. As I mentioned earlier in the thread it's a pity you have to push them to contact their broker to get what cover you need.

This is the issue I am having, they are all adamant, it is all or nothing, they will not just exclude theft until the alarm/tracker is fitted.

Give Matt a call at Southern Motorhome Security, he is a mobile fitter, is based on Hayling Island so Southampton no problem for him. He does an excellent job takes his time works very carefully.
Mention me to him (Lenny at Lancing).

Try ringing the Camping and Caravanning club. They don’t insist on a £1k+ tracker system and are pretty good on prices.

If you contact Safeguard tell them they have done it before in my case in September for a vehicle value which is over £110k which is I think is one of the triggers allowing for a fitting period. 24 hours is reasonable.

We had the same problem when we were trying to find a suitable quote for a new Frankia.

NFU (once they finally returned our calls) insisted that we would first need to transfer our home & contents insurance policy to them before they would even quote us.

Nfu quoted £350 more than caravan club, but don't require any security.

Have you managed to get fixed up yet with insurance for your MoHo collection.
