Thinking about buying the All the Aires book for next year - we've never stayed in an Aire so far and I'm wondering about the W.C. facilities. I see that the book tells you if there are W.C.s but not what type. Are most of the ones in French Aires the 'hole in the floor' type, or do most of them have 'proper sitty downy' ones?

most are the sit down ones,,,,usually public or shared with a site....but not all have W.C,s on ,,we have just come back from france and found more didnt have W.C,s so we just used the MH toilet as almost all had toilet disposal....but the Aires book is a must.......

Aires book a must have, assume they have no toilets and use your own, they all have dump off and water supply. If you get a toilet its a bonus. Lots of good municipal sites too, all with facilities. Get ACSI membership through Vicarious books too, use them every few days for quality facilities.

If you are determined to not use your own toilet, don't bother buying the allthe aires book, cause you will find you will be lucky to find a quater of them with toilets and them that have probably won't be fit to use

Just had our copy delivered this morning in readyiness for our October trip, open on pages 408-409 and only 2 sites showing with toilets, and as others have said I would want to take chance on what their condition would be.

Right for your very first aire look at the one at Embry just fifty minutes drive down from landing off the ferry or chunnel. No shops nearby but a beautiful toilet and shower block, it may well colour your thinking regarding aires. Stick N 50 29.712 and E oo1 57.953 into your sat nav and enjoy a few nights there. They are not all like that one but there are some more almost as good, just be selective

Hi, as said before we always use Aires not found more than a couple in my opinion actually use able we always use our own, the main reason we bought m/h in the first place was so we always have a clean loo which nobody else has abused!! Always to hand.

Cannot understand people who don't use their own toilet, we even use ours on campsites.

In seven years of visiting France and using aires almost exclusively - rarely campsites - I cannot recall one that had a toilet. There must have been one or two I suppose but I wasn't looking for them. I'm sure there must be more about but they are few and far between in my experience. Not sure why they would be needed by camping caristes anyway.

We have always used our loo. Is easier than tramping across a field especially at night.much easier I empty once every 2 days or once a day if it's hot.

Yes, I can echo that sentiment........Mrs BB entered one near Limoges and returned within seconds with a look on her face which suggested a camel had used it, on investigation I decided it was probably a Yak but you get my drift!

We have used this aire following recommendation from Laneside and would definitely agree.

Lovely aire, very clean. Toilet and shower block are better than a lot of campsites I have stayed on.

Never seen a toilet on a Aire in 7 years but then like others we use ours even when on campsites so probably never looked that hard. Think a chemical waste point and water are far more important than a toilet.

We all have made decisions in life for whatever reasons that other folk simply can't understand...

Did you know some people decided to support Man U*d?

Unbelievable but true!

Now whilst I would rather have heavy weights dangling from my thingies using rusty razor wire than use a toilet shared by many, many unknown people especially when I have my very own loo in the van, people should be allowed NOT to use their van loo if they so choose without any interrogation.

On the other hand choosing to support Man U*d should NOT be allowed...

I am sure I read somewhere JJ spent 15 minutes cleaning his loo recently to make it presentable for visitors? From which I conclude, and agree, dirty loos are fine if it is your mess!

Have occasionally found loos on aires but none that SWMBO would use. My standards are lower but I can't see the sense in having your own clean loo and using one that may be far from clean on a site or aire. Likewise I never use site showers except on one particular Spanish site (run by Germans) where the showers are too good to miss.
