Aires/campsites Rhone valley and south coast. (1 Viewer)

Currently just south of Lyons. Looking for aires/campsites adjacent to river Rhone with easy access to cycle route (not on road). Also near to basic shops for provisions. When on coast between Montpelier and Narbonne looking for sites close to sea with similar cycle and provisioning facilities. Any ideas people?

Several times I have stayed at the municipal at Tain l'Hermitage, not far north of Valence and you can cycle down to Valence mostly on a path from there. Two nice advantages of this site......it is almost next door to the Valrhona chocolate factory and shop and they do extensive free tastings....and it is walking distance to the place they produce the Croze Hermitage wine, they do free tastings, quite an extensive selection and you can also walk a trail around their vineyard with a leaflet of the route they give out.

Across the bridge in Tournon-sur-Rhone there is an aire if you don't fancy a campsite, easy walk between the two towns and also a nice walk up the hill on the Tournon side to a monument with great views over the valley.

Plenty of shops and bars both sides of the river.

Camping Pont d'Avignon doesn't get any closer to the Rhone, it's on the side of the riverbank !!!! Large-ish site. Lovely shaded pitches, great pool, little bar. 10 min cycle to the free shuttle that goes across the rhone, (you can take your bikes) to Avignon. We've just left a pitch in Avignon that had views of the Papal Palace and the Rhone. Ideal.
