So...this has just turned up....parked lengthways as has a tag along for a 3 wheel scooter...can’t fit on sideways. Taking up 2 spaces maybe 2.5.....is it fair...aire very popular as right next to River Dordogne....expensive though and nice aire....€11.50 with leccy ....only a couple of spaces left...I’m undecided....

We toured for years with a Trailer. That is just being lazy. The trailer needs to come off and be tucked down the side of the van. If you can get on on your hab door side and get it behind the door it's a bonus as it ensures no one parks right next to your step.

As a caveat though, I know a couple of solo motorhomers who have serious disabilities who would need help to drop the trailer so that might be the case here.

No he wasn’t disabled....did have a HUGE beer belly though...the sun went in when he walked past my van. It just goes to show how nice MH’ers are and no one has asked him to move...that laid back attitude and Ca m’est egal Is what I like about MH’ing...mind you if I’d turned up after a long drive and there were no spaces I’d probably have kicked him behind the knees so he dropped to the floor and a quick karate chop to the back of the neck...my normal modus operandi when people annoy me.

Is that a typical aire setup? no way could I stay there with everyone so close together like that. (n)
Its typical of some yes ...but not all

It is however not something I'd pay to park on ....too jammed in for me

I'd be in the corner behind the one parked lengthways hoping no-one parked next to me ....

I suspect its the true reason he parked that way too

We had many years towing trailers, only asked to leave once and the sign did say camping cars only, if it's not OK someone will tell him, I probably wouldn't park anywhere that popular, and find somewhere quiet, after all he has transport. 🤔
We found somewhere last night, very quiet outside a cemetery, 😉 and free. 😁 Bob.

Proper quiet neighbours, perfect ratio and distancing (y)

Dead quiet I'd imagine

And far from any grave danger

No bones about it

We normally tow a scooter on a trailer but, if we can’t fit in the space provided, (we have a 6m Compact m/h), we disconnect the trailer and park it crossways behind us. That way we take up about 7.5m space, similar to many motorhomes and do not protrude into roadway space.

No-one has ever complained to us about the system in over 30 years of travel.

Park next to him, but dont park perpendicular to him, park facing the same way so he is blocked in and tell him it was a good idea parking that way so you joined him.

Then let it slip that your oil warning light has just come on and AA will be down in a fortnight for you to be able to start your van again.

Looks as though there is room for that rig in the empty 3rd space on the left.

We stayed there last year, nice big spaces enough room to get the awning fully out within your marked area. Great location on the Dordogne and a short walk up to the picturesque village of Domme.
Out of season only €9 inc. servicing & EHU.

The grassy area where he is parked is new it wasn't there last year.

Saw something similar in Cobh but the big motorhome parked right at the end in the overflow part and backed into the narrow bit at the station end. As it happened the main aire was about 3/4 full at the time so there wasn't a problem.

I've also seen similar at another Irish Aire where a big motorhome parked sideways across every other motorhome space taking up all 5 spaces.

I must admit it is a bit tight...the picture makes it look worse than it is but as Lenny HB says it is a great location next to the river. Plus nice and central to whizz along the Dordogne valley on the scooter. Not sure about the “short” walk up To Domme..Especially in this heat....Again I went up by scooter and it seemed a long way up. Is their a ski lift or something I missed ?

Is it actually part of the Aire, looks like someone's garden?

We use Aires as overnight stops so as long as there is a space to fit in and I can get a door open I'm happy. If you expect an aire to be the same as a campsite... Yes they are horrendous then 😁👍

Resurrecting an old thread, hope that’s okay.

Two things about etiquette.

Firstly, I have been surprised at how many motorhomes are towing trailers and using Aires. I assumed that as caravans don’t use aires, MoHo’s towing wouldn’t either. But that’s not what I’ve seen.

Secondly, if you turn up at a small aire with one motorhome already there. Do you park as far away as possible or park next to it?? What’s the etiquette for this?

Park so there is space for others to get in, the French will park within a few inches of another van everyone else will give another van space.

We have arrived in a full aire in France and everyone gathered around and they wouldn’t let us leave they insisted on all moving up closer to each other so that we could squeeze in. Very different in Germany where everyone wanted room for their table and chairs between each motorhome
