Hi I have an airbag light and flashing mileage on citroen relay 2011, took it to a garage & did a diagnostic check, they said no communication with airbag ecu so I ordered one . My question is if I replace it would it need some kind of coding? The guys at my local garage didnt seem to know . Any help appreciated cheers

Plenty of threads on here on how to get them re-set for about £60 but I think you'll need to be a paid up member to search for them,so £15 well spent👍

Obviously I don't know the details but I would be a bit dubious about accepting the word of a garage diagnostic when no-one at the garage knew whether coding of a replacement part would be necessary.
I'm ignorant of air bag system technology but 'No communication......' could be just a wiring fault.

the dreaded air bag.
if you replace it you will need it "proxi aligned (is what FIAT call it ) and its not always that simple.

best option is to get it to someone who do repairs on your own as that can be refitted without alignment and just clearing the faults.

there is a simple proceure to remove the unit. there are lots of info on this forum and tinternet on the subject.

Had mine come on Fiat 2.3, 2012
Son who has garage did code read. Came up in plain English. Fault in Airbag ÉCU.
On mine it is the small box under the floor mat and below glove box
Local auto electrician may be able to do it or else Crashdata do them for £60
Usually caused when starting with low battery voltage. Mine wasn’t low so Sod’s law.

Mine just started that too. I had an check engine light come on - dpf fault, code clears and then airbag light and flashing odometer Fiat on the phone says need new ecu so I’ll leave it for now and see if it clears.

Mine was caused by the constant swivel of drivers seat whilst used stationary, dodgy connection Renault Master.

I have read this but ruled it out as my battery is good but maybe that happened to mine too

Had exactly the same on my 2014 Boxer last month. Thankfully my mechanic had dealt with other vehicles with a similar issue and was aware of the problems. He ordered a new unit and programmed it so now all sorted. He did say that of the previous 8 or 9 that he had dealt with there was only one that he couldn’t programme and that had to go to the main dealer for the last stage. It was still a lot cheaper than if Peugeot had done the whole job.

There have been cases where the only "fault" was a Multi-pin connector, often under a seat or some other "trafficed" area of the `van has become lose or disconnected. Hence the "NO communication" message,

For example I removed the seats on the Rapido, This come up with an SRS fault. which needed only a reset?.

Yeah I need a good mechanic around Chester area - I think these Van's are a bit different

So bit of an update - I had another diagnostic done as the first wasnt clear , this time it says ' airbag ecu fail' - so do you guys think I need another one or is this something fixable?
