I am thinking of buying a new van on an alko chassis and will need to raise the rear of van to clear crown of road onto my drive. Has anyone got any experience of an alko chassis with air ride fitted any how much can the rear be raised.

We have just had VB semi air fitted to our Exsis i698 and it will raise about 50 mm we use it when towing to keep rear end up when trailer hitched and van loaded.

We've had AS Air assist on the rear of our Alko chassis and when fully inflated raises our 1mtr overhang by about 2" (50mm). The rise will be different depending on the length of overhang.

Spoke to a guy at Lincoln Show, who retails Air suspension, It`s Bloody expensive! In region of 1.5 to 2K fitted. The whole Rear suspension is markedly different from Standard.

I spoke at length with the retailer, and he showed me the difference, which includes a completely different Radius arm and heavy duty fitting on the frame. So I could see where the extra expense goes it`s pretty much a full "re engineering" of the rear set-up. Most of the extra cost is in the fabrication of specialist Parts. "Small Batch" production, even with modern CNC tooling is very costly, the cost benefits only come with mass production.

When you look at the kit that's fitted you can see why the cost is high but it works a treat and Court Conversions did a good job wouldn't hessitate to recommend them.

When considering air ride I contacted Alko they were expensive and I would have had to take the van to Germany to have the work done at their factory I instead went to Tiverton and had it done there cheaper.

Have been considering full air on our alko chassis but am now thinking about just having it on the rear... however do any funsters strongly recommend it on the front too?
