Looking at having roof mounted air con installed does anyone have experience of dometic fresh jet 2200 ?

Depending on size of van, positioning is important to get all areas cool so think about where you will mount it

The dometic has the same size opening as the hatch above the kitchen which is fairly central so would probably site there

Made a mistake with. one, mounted slightly off centre which means it cools the living are really well but doesn't blow straight through to the bedroom area. Hey ho, you live and learn. Mine is a Domestic and works just fine

A LOT noiser than we were expecting when we had one on a rental van we used. Not just that but the way they kick in and out is also kind of annoying.

They are definitely not quiet. When in warmer climes (I wish) will have it on to cool the interior whilst we are sitting outside so nice and cool when it's bedtime

We use ours over the bedroom area, to cool it down before bed, and for this it works very, very well, it doesn't cool the entire van quite as well, they just are not powerful enough for that, none of them are regardless of make, they aren't silent either but not hugely noisy.

Never considered the ducted option but will read up on that also

Undoubtedly ducted will be quieter, and maybe more efficient, we didn't choose one of these because there is nowhere to hide the ducts so they are out of view.

Can I just simply tee into the heating ducting ? If so all the hard work is already done

You can but it wont work very well, the cooled air should be as near the roof as possible, the cool air will sink, if you don't do this you will end up with nice cold feet and a hot head! this is the problem with this type, how to route the ducting discreetly

We have a Dometic 2200 on our van.
I would echo they are noisy and the compressor does cut in and out.
It takes quite a long time to make a big difference.
I understand they cannot be regassed (Dometic anyway)
It’s worth noting we use the heating function quite a lot early in the morning to take the chill off.

I intend to do a bit more research into this before I commit to anything however the ducted version is starting to look a bit more attractive

They can be regassed needs to have a port fitted but no problem.

We also have the Truma Aventa which also has an heater built in, it has a night mode as well so can be left on if we wish

It can cool our 8.8 mtr moho perfectly well even in 40dgs + as it was in France 2019

Phew!!

Highly recommended and if you can’t sleep then you’ve not drank enough vino 😉😂

Is it roof mounted or ducted? I have a Delaware, so if it cools your Comanche it will work for us.

Remember air conditioning (that's any good) will require electrical hookup to operate it, trying to run it off the batteries is not a good idea. In the UK electrical connections are usually okay but abroad can be as low as 3amp, 6 is quite common and you'll only get more at the bigger sites.

I replaced our aircon with a Maxxfan system. Runs off 12v, almost silent in use and perfectly adequate for our needs - a breeze is just as effective as cooling. But of course it does not cool the air as such.

it’s roof mounted and took around 40 mins to fit.

Remove the ekki in the kitchen area, fit the aircon unit and torque it down, no need for any sealant btw, we fitted a switched supply and no cables are seen anywhere and voila

It really is very easy to do and well worth it imho. Also if i sell the moho it can be removed and the ekki refitted

the night mode, if needed is also good, we cool the van down before going to bed then turn it to night mode, this then runs all night on/off f you want it to

Truma have/had a promotion on atm and fitted it was £1800, I used Auto Additions btw who was superb and you’d think it was fitted at the factory as he left no trace of anything being done, highly recommend him

Al 👍

We have the dometic fresh light fitted on our Delaware we think it's great when in Europe
The secret is not to run it at full pelt but run it at a lower fan speed but for longer
