I'm coming up to 70 years of age in August, so, if I don't wish to retain my Grandfather rights after my birthday can I continue to drive my motorhome gross weight 3500kg after that date?

If you don’t wish to retain your C1 you can renew your licence online as long as you have a valid passport.

What happens if you don`t have a valid (In date) passport..?

Yes
Standard car licence allows up to 3500kg plus a trailer up to 750kg.
That depends on when you passed the driving test. Your suggestion is post 1997

The driving licence requirements for a 7.5-tonne vehicle vary depending on when a driver got their car driving licence. ... However, drivers who passed their car driving test from 1 January 1997 will have to take a separate C1 test in order to drive a 7.5-tonne truck, or any vehicle weighing in excess of 3.5 tonnes.22 Aug 2017

Agreed, but the thread isn't about C1....its about relinquishing it and still driving a 3500kg van.
ALL cat B car licences allow 3500kg plus a 750kg trailer up to the latest update. .

Well actually it was about grandfather rights and as it happens, if test passed prior to 1997 the original status applies and doesn't need a C1 which wasn't mentioned in the original post

The OPs question has been answered numerous times..... Why complicate it with C1 and 7500kg vehicles when he's giving up his C1 entitlement and simply want to know if he can still drive his van.

There were various replies and rather than complicate things I put the official version on. However, it's also handy for other readers and Funsters to be aware but I quoted the driving agency but, hey never mind

That's OK then, so tomorrow or next week we won't have the same or similar question asked as everyone will see your official reply and not need to post.

Ill leave it in your capable hands.
