We currently have a solar panel on the roof, not sure if its a 120w or 150w.

We want to take this little extra one with us incase we need it to keep batteries topped up. How do we connect it? The wire on the panel isn't long enough to reach the floor so will need to be joined. I just want to sit it outside and point to the sun. The wire in the 3rd photo I bought for something else but never used. Would this be suitable?

I always like to check with you techy folk. :)

That cable is 1mm sq providing it is actually 1mm sq ( thin wall cables size often includes the insulation) should be OK if the cable was 5m long you will get about a 3.8% loss at 18v which is acceptable. If you need a longer cable I would use at least 3mm sq

Thanks Lenny, are you referring to the cable thats on the solar panel or the black reel?At a guess we need to add around 10ft onto the existing cable.

If you already have a big reel of 1mm2, you could double it up - all that matters is the total cross-sectional area. It's not a safety thing, it's minimising voltage drop.
