I'm a newbie
I am new to motorhomes and have been looking for an affordable option, recently I came across a Fiat Ducato camper year 2000, (KNAUS SPORT TRAVELLER 550) which seems to be in very good condition for the year, I was wondering does anybody have any pointers regarding this model and what to look out for when buying a camper of this age.

Your help would be greatly appreciated

Ken

Like all older motorhomes, and some newer ones, check thoroughly for damp and/or evidence of water ingress.

Check condition and age of tyres. If over 5 years old budget to replace or haggle on the price.

That is general advice only as I have no experience of the specific model.

Have you seen the MOT paperwork for the last few years? Check service history.
Does everything actually work?........ ... Heating,fridge,water,hob/oven etc
See Jim’s Buyers Guide on here.

I have no idea if Eire has a similar system to the UK, where we can check the DVLA website on a vehicles annual MOT tests, we can go into history & this gives a good indication of a vehicles previous mechanical care.
For example my motorhome is over 25yrs old, & has had to have extensive welding carried out to the cab area but, you wouldn't know it from the outside, the cab looks perfect, it just so happens that the welding has been carried out to an incredibly high standard but, at least I knew what to look for when I went to view the van.

The chief enemy of older motorhomes is damp, buy yourself a good damp meter & get into every nook & cranny, check slowly & carefully. If the seller objects, walk away.

Our leader Jim has put a very good guide for those wishing to buy a motorhome.

One final word, do not set your heart on a particular motorhome & pull the wool over your own eyes cos you've fallen in love with this purchase, it would only come back to haunt you in a very expensive way.
