Next year we are making our first visit ever to Italy and would welcome advice on any sites that you can recommend in the following areas:
1. The Italian lakes.
2. Pisa
3. Florence
4. Lastly we would like to visit Rome.
We are travelling in April and May so will hopefully be out of the main holiday seasons and sites should be quieter at that time of the year.
We prefer to stay on sites outside of the main towns and cities so that we can visit the cities by train or bus or, since we have just got some bikes, we can travel into cities by bike.
Thanks
Peter

Sorry no one's replied. :( But you should get some ideas just doing a search on here for say "Florence". We visited Tuscany last year and went briefly into the lakes area but we kept away from the well known lakes. You can find where we went here: https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/threads/three-go-adventuring-again.130193/
If you are coming back in May try and get to the Banon cheese festival which we stumbled on by accident. I don't know the dates of the 2018 festival and they probably won't publish it until next year, but it is highly recommended. :)

Thanks for that, the link makes interesting reading and we sifted out details of some sites that look promising, will look for the cheese festival another time as we plan to return via Austria and then up through Germany

We've stayed at Camping Cappucini at Peschiera del Garda and Camping Iseo at Iseo in the Lakes.

Both are great, would happily return to both, Cappucini especially.

You need to book in advance. I've found that by email is best. There will be a booking form that requires a lot of detail. You need to fill it in properly. Both are quite expensive but that shouldn't be as much of an issue if you're going out of season.

A general observation about campsites in Europe generally if you've not used them before is that the endless reams of rules that apply here don't exist there. Access is likely to be tighter and spacing will be a lot closer than you're used to. If you mention the 9 metre rule you will either be laughed at or they'll send for the men in white coats (y)

To visit the big cities I would very strongly recommend finding somewhere to stay well outside and using public transport to get in and out.

Hi
Found Camping Cappuccini online last night so that is already on the hit list - thanks for details on the other site as we particularly want to visit this small lake and the site looks nice so again has gone on the list.
We did 2 months in Spain and Portugal earlier this year and used the public transport to get into the major cities but now we both have bikes we are looking forward to seeing all the cities and towns and hopefully get fitter as well.
Cheers
Peter
