Hi, I have a 2018 motorhome bought as new July 2019. I found sealant on the roof that had cracks and in parts not good coverage.
The dealer agreed and resealed .I spoke to engineer who told me he didnt take out original sealant but using a primer went over it with new sealant.
When I use sealant around the house I always try to make it a smooth finish so as I can clean it , if finished non smooth I always think the mould can get in and not easy to get to. I have incuded pictures, could you let me know your thoughts. Thanks in advance of any help.

I'd try contacting the first owner, ask why he didn't keep it very long. If it was a known fault the dealer could have misrepresented it "as new"??

that is sh*te workmanship. it MAY! seal but it would not fill me with confidence.

i would be asking the Workshop manager ( or Boss ) if they think that is acceptable standard of workmanship / repair to a new motorhome .

Primed or not it sounds like a bodge to me, certainly not good enough for a nearly new van.

It's a sub-standard finish and I would get getting the job done properly.

That’s a diy bodge if ever I saw one. I certainly would not be happy with that.

I cant really work out where it has been sealed, however does look a bit rough.
Having said that, the guy that does bits and pieces for me (has worked on moho`s/caravans for 40 odd years at major dealership), fitted a Fiamma windout canopy on my last moho and Vision Plus Status arial on current one, pointed out, likes of on the roof or anyplace not in view leave as much sealant as is reasonable and not to smooth it off to save leaving water access points. Makes sense really.

Put politely as I can

I hope you have not given money to whoever did this??

Wow, one of the worst I’ve seen and on a two year old van, what a bodge!

Definitely not a job done by "Trust The Trader" that is the worst looking sealant job I have ever seen, who did it? someone having a fit, I would walk away unless they removed all the sealant and did a total reseal job.
Very poor workmanship.

What a crap job I’d be taking the van back and leaving it there until done properly and that means taking the old out and doing the job correctly, whoever did that doesn’t have any pride in their work do the? I’d be embarrassed to leave a job in that condition.??

I'd reconsider your use of the term 'engineer' !

Another excellent job done by a “Great British” dealer..... great work experience for the dealers 11yr old son on a Saturday morning.....

Not an "easy" fix. and definitely somewhat rough!. to say the least. Looking at it could the panel edges be separated and a non drying sealant injected?. I did that with the front cap of the last R-V, and then put the Screws back in using stainless steel ones. It was then overpainted with Rubberised coating anyway.

the guy has done this in the cold and damp and he has found the Sikaflex ( if that is what he has used ) has been too difficult to handle.
there is no excuse for not clearing sufficient of the cracked sealant and doing it in an area warm enough and dry enough to ensure a perfect seal and a neat job.

on a a van of this age i would be spitting blood.

but calm, polite and forceful is the way to get this sorted by the dealer.

Thankyou for all your advice , it gives me more confidence to approach the dealer.

Got to be the worst sealant job I have ever seen, totally unacceptable.
I think you need to put it in writing that you expect the sealant to be completely removed and replaced to an acceptable standard.

If you were to leave it like it is when you come to sell or trade anyone seeing that would run a mile thinking it's had serious damp problems.
