Hello fellow travellers.
Does anybody know of a breakdown cover for a British registered vehicle that spends all year in France, to cover both French breakdowns but also rare excursions to Italy etc.
Of course, after three months in France technically under French regulations the vehicle should be registered in France.
I will not be doing so however. We have several cars and vans. The majority have been French registered, but our Bentley would need import tax paying on it and various other taxes totalling over 30.000 €.
On the basis that I don't have 30.000 € (can anybody please lend me 29.900 €?), I will have to return it to England in the very unlikely event of being stopped. Our Jaguar has been British registered here for years with never a query. We have ben insured by an English company for years on it, (the French insurers all insist now on French registration). The problem is that since the blasted B word, they no longer include breakdown cover.
My understanding is that most breakdown companies that are not French based have a limit as to how long a car can stay abroad.
Does anybody know different please?
Any assistance, much appreciated.
safe driving.
Paul
