Hi

We are currently on a site in South West France not far from Spain where we have made the mistake of booking a campsite and the weather has been dire. We won't be booking any sites again!!

So we are looking for some nice aires or very cheap campsites (we will lose money leaving here early) that we can keep an eight year old boy happy on that are in the sunshine. We are heading to Santander on Monday so happy to travel a reasonable distance. We need ideally somewhere on a river, beach or lake that takes dogs and children. Inland Spain is probably our best bet for some sunshine - it has been so changeable here and only had two nice days out of 8!!

Can anyone recommend anywhere?

It's never going to be easy to guarantee wall to wall sunshine were ever someone recommends. Zaragoza area looks like it's going to be sunny but I wouldn't like to be in a motorhome with the temperatures forecast.

Anything is better than dodging rain showers constantly! We don't have the spanish aires book so looking at camper contact for some nice stops.

I have the safari aire pencilled in near santander for possibly the weekend just looking for somewhere nice in between! Also need a vet! Arggh!

You could just stay put. :) Assuming you are on the Atlantic coast it is more or less dry there for the next week. Not very sunny but warm.

We are at Arcachon south of Bordeaux and today it's hot and sunny.
So think you should be ok for the next few days.
We have never booked anywhere, just pick a destination and we have only been turned away once. The beauty of motorhomes is the flexibility to be able to change destination because of poor weather or poor campsite.

If you're going to Santander then go about 17kms south to Cabercenos. It's a wild life park with a huge car park given over to Motorhomes. There's another smaller car park with free pump and dump facilities. There's a lake with a walk all around and you can also go walking for miles through the hills and countryside.

There's a large grassy area where you can sit out and shelter below the trees if it gets too hot. A short walk up the hill and there are some restaurants with a little tiny shop that sells bread and essentials (stock up before you go). There's the park itself if that's your thing and this year the chair lift has opened which is quite spectacular and great fun for a little one. If you don't want to pay the entrance fee then just walk around the corner and you can find yourself up close to the elephants and other animals and you can watch them having fun in their own lake.

Get there early - it's gets very busy in the evenings.

ETA - It's free!

Thanks @JackieP that's the one I had heard of and sounds fab! Thanks for the tips that's definitely on the agenda! The weather does look slightly better here depending on which forecast you read but it's been terrible here for the past 8 days with regards to sunshine! Prior to this we were on the aire near Gastes and weather was fab! We won't be booking sites again as if we hadn't we could of gone to Portugal or somewhere else!! Never mind!! Lesson learnt!!

If it's not sunny tomorrow we plan to move on as we are getting bored here anyway!! If it's sunny we will stay put!!
