Has anyone added an external bluetooth GPS module like the Garmin GLO or Bad Elf to a standard non-cellular iPad so that you can use it as a sat nav?

If so, which module do you use and is it reliable or does it keep dropping out?

Garmin GLO, perfect if you already own an IPad without a SIM card. Personally been using this setup for the last 12 months and found it to be exceptionally reliable(y)

I've been using the Garmin GLO for the last 3 years. Works perfectly. Also found that once the IPad knows where it is you can turn it off. Spent two months at La Manga, only used it for the first day. (y)

Since 2008 & many years tugging
We use a Bluetooth GPS receiver with windows laptop, they all work to the same standard so don't see why it shouldn't work.

Thanks everyone, we have an iPad and a mini both without cellular so was hoping that it would work to avoid any further expense.

Three years and counting, 30 years a tent tower.
What app do you find best with the Garmin GLO? Does the app handle MH sizing?

Hi
I use a Bad Elf GPS with lightning connector. Tried the Bluetooth version first but found it kept dropping out. The facility to still connect the USB power supply through the GPS module is important because it does run the iPad battery down fairly quickly.
In use I have found it to be very good, it quickly sorts out the satellite connections. I run it for CoPilot which I too find good.

I run a Garmin Glo but with Android tablets, it will supply Bluetooth up to 5 devices, but I have a 10inch Sony on the driver side and my wife has a 10 inch Samsung, both running CoPilot Truck. The app we run is simply called Bluetooth GPS, but of course its Android, there will be a similar app on apple. The Garmin Glo runs with both the US and the Ruskie satellites so wonderful accuracy, not cheap but simple and used by light aircraft pilots.
